on windows: alt + print screen, paste into img editor
OS X: shift + apple + 4, highlight area you want, open image (put on desktop) in photoshop.

If I hit alt + print screen nothing happens. (maybe nothing's supposed to?)

How do you paste into img editor? What/where is img editor?

(I just use photoshop).

alt + print screen puts the img on your clipboard. Make a new image in photoshop, edit -> paste, and it should be there.
