Hey, a new Nigerian Thread, What do yall think?
Yes, I know this is a scam, but it is funny. I wonder what would happen if we responded in French as his e-mail says he is using the French Yahoo?
DEAR BUFFINGTON, I am Barrister Mohammed Suleiman, a solicitor at law. I am the personal attorney to Mr. PHILLIP BUFFINGTON, a national of your country, who was an oil merchant and contractor with the Federal Government of Nigeria and as well a one time secret agent in transfering of money overseas for the Late former head of state of Nigeria {Late Gen. SANI ABACHA}. On the 27th of January 2002,my client, his wife and their child were involved in Ikeja bomb blast here in my country. He and his family unfortunately lost their lives. At the time of his death My client {Philip} deposited as family belongings in AFRICAN DEVELOPMENT BANK the sum of $17M here in Nigeria for himself, with the hope of transferring it to his country as soon as he is on leave. Since his death I have made several enquiries to your embassy to locate any of my clients extended relatives, but this attempt so far has been unsuccessful. PLEASE VIEW THESE WEBSITES BELOW: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/africa/2718295.stm http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/africa/2698081.stm After these several unsuccessful attempts, I decided to trace his last name over the Internet, to locate any member of his family hence I contacted you. I have contacted you to assist in repartrating the money and property left behind by my client before they get confisicated or declared unserviceable by the AFRICAN DEVELOPMENT BANK where the deposit was made. Now the BANK has issued me a notice to provide the Next of Kin or have the MONEY confisicated within the next ten officialworking days. Since I have been unsuccesfull in locating the relatives for over 2 years now. I seek your consent to present you as the Next of Kin of the deceased since you have the same last name, so that the proceeds of this deposit (17 Million United States Dollars) be SENT to you for own benefit. All legal documents to aid your claim for this fund and to prove your relationship with the deceased will be arranged for. Your help will be appreciated with 30% of the total sum. All I require is your honest cooperation to enable us see this deal through. I guarantee that this will be executed under a legitimate arrangement that will protect you from any breach of the law. Please accept my apologies, keep my confidence and disregard this email if you do not appreciate this proposition I have offered you. However, if you do please include your phone and fax number in your response for bettercommunication. You can reply me through my prefered email address: moha_ammed_0158@yahoo.fr God bless you and your family. Best regards, Mohammed Suleiman(ESQ) |
Go to www.419eater.com for some (very funny) hints on how to deal with this - it's called scambaiting, and is a hoot!

"The cult of the red breast" and various other hysterical scambaits are detailed at the link I posted. Make sure your boss can't see your face when you read through these though, as the smile on your face will be a dead giveaway!

do they really ever get someone with these? i mean the word must spread if they keep on trying, right?
|
Hmmm, I'm thinking of telling him this is my US address, I'm stationed with the French Foreign Service in Tunis, and that I actually did have a 1st Cousin Phillipe with whom I lost contact about five years ago during his travels in East Africa. Of course, put this all in French. Notice his e-mail address is the French Yahoo? Maybe start by asking him to set up an account for me in South Africa? Hmm, wonder if this might be worth my time...

Dave,
They don't get many people, but those they do, loose a lot of money. I work for a major bank here in South Africa, and was amazed to see that even people from the higher levels of society get caught out. Cheers! Willem |
Well, the idget never called me on my message. I know the French was good! He just did not wish to be scammed I guess...
