Mac G5 advice needed

So if I can get a two year old dual 2 ghz G5 model 9032 Ll/A for about $1600 or a new dual 2.3 ghz for $2300, which should i choose. Both will be a great leap from my 867 mhz G4. Primary use will be converting old vhs to dvd.

Umm...something that intense would probably require a new machine. In two years, the new machine will be finished and need a replacement anyway. :(

New box if you can swing it.

Video is massively intensive.

You want as much grunt as you can afford unless you like watching grass grow.

Get the cheaper one. My old dual P2-450 handled video encoding fine, my current dual 1.2 athlon can do it in near-real-time. You won't see a $900 difference between dual 2ghz and dual 2.3s...

I'm with idiot ( ;) ). Seriously, this is only NTSC video we're talking about. It's not like you're making HDTV DVDs of the latest Star Wars movie (or are you? Hmmmm!).

Thanks. I believe I will go bargain for the older one.

yup, and use some of the price difference to load up on RAM and maybe a fast-as-you-can-get HD.
