Just wondering... I don't really care, it's just that he's immediately popped up under a revised name, so what was the point? Frankly I think it's better to have him "out"... and it's been great to lampoon him. I totally disagree with his views, and admittedly the hate that that seems to infuse him is a bit disturbing, but it's been a real eye opener to see that the racial problems we have in the world still need a lot of mending. And at least he brought the christian and athiests together

I dunno, I just thought the US had this freedom of speech thing...

Excellent point! I would have thought one would have to try pretty hard to have both atheists *and* Christians after you! Alfie made it look easy!

I actually don't agree with banning him just because he spouts viewpoints that aren't politically correct. Heck, if the religious right ever gets a really good foothold in government, *my* atheistic viewpoints will probably get me banned.

I think it was worse than that. The moderator had to edit racial epithets on more than one occasion. My son reads this forum, I don't mind him looking at the grid girls, but the rascist stuff is just too much.

I was the one who banned Alfred1.

He was given multiple warnings by both Nostatic and myself, as well as others who posted stating that he needs to tone down his racist comments, and he refused to do so.

When banned, I sent him an email stating he should contact me, and we could then discuss his id being reactivated. I try to view these bans not as a permanent thing, but as an opportunity for someone to change their ways. INSTEAD, he simply registered as Alfred2, and wrote me back basically stating "go ahead and try to ban me."

So now, Alfred1, Alfred2, (and whatever other alias he tries to come up with) will be PERMANENTLY BANNED from the Pelican Parts BBS.

Don't piss of your moderators.

Good for you. This board is more than reasonable and Wayne tolerates opinion-type posts from people that he holds nothing in common with, so if someone can't function within that parameter chop them off at the knees.

I believe he has been banned for a spell in the past too (for the same thing) --> good enough reason for me. Normally I'd advocate tolerating it, and I like arguing, but he just dodges the questions he can't answer and changes the subject to something else vile.

i'll add my $0.02. Z and I conferred via pm quite a few times. I pm'd Alfred quite a few times with multiple warnings (as well as public ones in posts). Actually I agonized over whether to erase some of his posts, and finally locked a thread only after considerable thought.

While I disagreed with virtually everything he said, I am a fan of conversation and debate. And despite the fact that he used a number of racially-charged terms, he didn't do very much in the way of *personal* attacks (unless you consider insults to a group "personal"). But after awhile it just gets old, and people were getting offended, imho with good reason.

The other reason I let it go was that in a certain sense, having people like Alfred1 around serves an important purpose: extreme viewpoints do exist, and we need to know that. "Keep you friends close, your enemies closer." It is scary and enlightening to read posts like his. But at some point it becomes too much, too often, and too offensive. He did veer back onto "debate", but would then careen into racist blathering. And careened one too many times...
