Some people are smarter than other people. Some people work harder than other people. Some people work harder, smarter & longer than other people. Those people deserve a reward greater than the other people.

My friend is quite content working 40 hours a week - and not a minute longer. He did not go to college and is not especially motivated. He does just enough to get by/not get fired. I work hard, long hours, weekends when needed, self motivated, make things happen, etc... WHY IN THE WORLD should he get paid anything near what I get paid?

Let me get this straight... You're basically saying I bought my Denali so that I could boast and put the poor, less fortunate liberals in danger of their lives?

hahahahaha whateverdude.

My wife laughs as well.

29% (including Canada and Mexico) quoted by the government in 1998, vs. 80% cited offhandedly. Hmmm...

I also find it quite telling that our caped crusader conveniently ignored this little problem with his original post.

Man, we haven't had a truly ingenious Elsworth Toohey post in a while.

Bravo, Supe. Well done, truly. You've truly had your way with most of the people responding to this post - and the brilliance of it is that many of them still don't know how roundly and thoroughly they've been had.

For anyone that hasn't read "The Fountainhead" by Ayn Rand, but wish to understand on just how many levels Jim sometimes operates - go get it and read it. No, it's not 1,000 pages long like Atlas Shrugged. Pay careful attention to Elsworth Toohey, or "Uncle Elsie".

Is "The Fountainhead" as good as "A Confederacy of Dunces?" ;)

dtw 06-08-2005 07:59 PM

Y'know I had to Google that. First thing I thought was "Sounds like a Greenday song" but that was just my warped mind at work. Read an editorial, sounds like a fascinating book. Nonetheless, your wink will have to remain an unknown to me until I read it.

Gotta run. Gotta make the payment on the new F150.

<--------Other than the Porsches, proud owner of gas guzzling and elitist 5.4L F150 and 3.8L Mustang...

Here's a reference for the anti-establishment among us - one of my favorite bands, conservative Rep though I am, is the Fatima Mansions. Irish punk metal, ooh yeah!!!

Remember "Only Losers Take the Bus"? Best line - Cathal Coughlan screaming at the top of his lungs - "GET THESE DEAD BODIES OFF MY RACE TRACK!!! YEEEEEEAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH"

OK that CD goes with me in the F150 in the morning. All Hail, Soup!

dd74 06-08-2005 08:05 PM

Music blurs the political lines, Dave. Ain't it great? :D

dtw 06-08-2005 08:12 PM

What does it say about me that the most fuel-efficient vehicle I own is an '86 Porsche 911 Carrera?

What does it say about the credibility of Soup's thread here that he owns a 911 SC?

I'm really gonna stop in a few minutes, but I keep getting what alcoholics call "moments of clarity". Scary part is, I haven't had a drink since Memorial Day.

Then laughs down his nose at the folks who have to be resourceful, making due with what they've got. This poll asks folks to admit they have this attitude, so I'm getting what I asked for. The good news is most folks did not vote "Dang Right." The bad news is that anybody did.
No sweat Supe, my point is that I am not trying to please anybody else who has misconceptions about why I drive what I drive, and I feel no need to justify my choices in vehicles(to whom?) I don't "hope" that people are pissed off while I am driving--but if they DO get pissed off, then that is THEIR problem. I never ***** about the cost of gasoline, oil, maintenance, and I don't rely on the "becasue they are safer/I can see better" arguments.
I have reasons why I drive these vehicles, just as those who drive hybrids/Civics have reasons they drive those.
I don't piss in other people's cornflakes, and sure as hell don't want any "holier than thous" pissing in mine.
Folks on a performance car message board can surely see the danger of prohibiting any type of vehicle--start with GVW, next is engine size, next is multiple vehicles by 1 person, next is any type of recreational vehicle, next is sports which utilize gasoline, etc. etc.

Besides, if the guy in the Prius wants to give me grief, I will run him over in my truck:p

PS--Supe, strapping 10 sheets of plywood to the roof of a Jetta isn't "resourceful" it is "stupid"

Yeah, screw all this socialism!

Besides, what do these guys think this is, NASCAR? How would you like for the govt. to mandate a restrictor plate for your P-car?:D:D:D

Not that there's anything wrong with NASCAR...

I drive an SUV so I can haul ladders, mower, tools etc to my rental house when needed.

The SUV? A 1997 GMC Jimmy 4 door. The smallest SUV that can do the job for me.

I own the American attitude you speak of however nonetheless. I don't expect "fairness" in life, or on the roadways.

I want to own a bigger gun than my neighbor, a bigger house, and a bigger paycheck. I work to have it.

For those that failed out of school, bucked the system, and want free hand-outs- may they be banished to Kias and Festivas forever.

This is why America is so great- if you work hard, you are rewarded with safe cars, safe homes, and a good life.

If you don't, you still can have a good life mooching off of others.

So what's the problem?

dtw 06-09-2005 06:46 AM

Carnutzzz - I hear you brother. No problem here.
