My grandfather had one of these (Ghibli coupe?) from ever since I can remember until the day he died (1999). It NEVER left the garage.

Ex owner here.

Stay very far away from these old Masers. Complete, unadulterated crap. I have endless horror stories.

As an engineer, I'd prefer it if you'd retract the word engineering from the above statement... however, I can relate having once owned a V-12 Jaguar, it looked awesome, ran nice, the 300 HP didn't push the car as fast as I had hoped and I spent damn near every weekend fixing some odd ball thing or diagnosing LUCAS electrical problems.

Jeeez guys you are hard :)

This is not an old Ghilbi, this is 1995 year model. Apparently, these last models before Ferrari bought the shop were reasonably fuss-free for being a Maserati.

Joeaksa 06-11-2005 06:22 AM

A good friend of mine has owned one for years. I do some of the maintenance on it. The electrics are a nightmare, and parts can be difficult to get.

You really have to have all the factory manuals and even they are not very descriptive in some areas. Switches and relays give up after a few months useage and so on...

Its not a daily driver car. Nice to look at but typical Italian car.

If anyone edits their opinion based on this new information, please put it in italics so I can see if it makes any difference.

I also love Ferrari and Maserati, however being on a fixed income I can only afford the maintenance on a Porsche (that's a good thing) if you don't need to depend on the car and don't mind spending the money on up-keep go for it.

Cars I have passed on that I could afford to buy but not keep running:

Gorgeous Ferrari in used car lot $10K
Maserati Bi turbo
Jag V-12
BMW 8-series V-12

Sounds like a prime e-bay turnover candidate.

Well back in December 64 my Daddys younger brother was on his way home from work in his Maserati...the car wasn't quiet running right so he pulled over to the curb to tweak it....when a guy that was blind in one eye truned the corner and hit the Maserati from the rear...killing Daddy younger brother instantly...the hood cutting him across the heart...he was thrown into traffic where he was run over....that was the end of the guy who invented super glue...

I did a track day at Brands Hatch and two Maserati owners turned up with a Ghibli - it did 3 laps at modest speeds and then dumped its engine contents over the fastest corner.
A two car wreck then ensued (Fiat Coupe and TVR Tuscan before the whole day was called off.
Maserati suck generally as they seem to have no idea of what a car should look like - not only that but we didn't get our money back.
Be a man - buy a Porsche NOW!

Oooooooooh!
I didn't realize we were talking about the famous Maserati Fuss-Free.
Such a better car than that poorly engineered Ghibli.
Buy the F-F immediately.
Congrats in advance on your future motoring joy!

Tabs, who are you talking about?

Harry Coover (1919- )
Superglue
Coover’s invention of a new class of adhesives has influenced medicine, industry, and consumers. At Eastman Chemical and Eastman Kodak, Coover discovered cyanoacrylate adhesives (CA), soon known as superglue, or Eastman 910. Early use of CA during the Vietnam War allowed for the quick closure of wounds. Other medical uses have been found for CA, as well as many everyday uses for superglue. Coover, who holds over 460 patents, resides in Kingsport, Tennessee.

Daddys Younger Brother was running three 3M plants in Detroit...he had his degree in Chemistry from UM....right before he was killed he had returned to the lab and was doing research...His wife my dear Auntie told me he came home one day and said that he, "Had found something very sticky." She surmised that what he had found is what became Superglue...unfortunately he was killed shorthly thereafter...

Now is Auntie pulling my string..at his funeral the CEO and the Chairman of the Board for 3M were in attendence...

Ohh BTW: Daddy also got his degree in Chemistry from Wayne State....Daddy has several patents for various things he invented...one of which was a self destruct electronic circuit board material...

Just two questions tabs:

1. What are you on?

2. Where can I get some?

I'm sure he had something to do with it, just one of many who did not get credit.

From what I understand none of the 3M guys can hold patents now, including stuff being worked in the labs on personal pet projects after hours. Read once about a 3M guy who shortly after leaving 3M applied for a patent on his garage project. They were all over him like white on rice.

Ok Ok I'll jump in. Italian Cars are like Italian women, No offense Isabo. They may look wonderful but as they say ..somebody somewhere has had it with their $hite. ( yes I have an Italian wife!) Love her to death but high maintenance. I guess it depends on how much you want to work on your car vs driving your car.

Second hand stories only... but a I see the same guy, driving a blue Cup car every day up the road past my office....even has the same tags every day...could it be he uses his every day...for the drive into work..?

No couldn't possibly be, its a POS...Now it could be that he is married to the car mechanic...but he isn't the mechanic and his business is certainly not car related...

Yup, he gets is serviced a least twice a year to make sure it doesn't break down. oh and he's owned it from new and he is Italian.

Perhaps he was the lucky one......and yes it does go very quickly.
