will you do/did you do anything for your 40th b-day?
well, damn! the thirtysomething years are coming to an end. i want to go into my forties with a bang. i plan on making it physical, so i am giving myself lots of time to plan and get in shape. i thought maybe my first marathon or do an epic backpacking trip. but looks like i am gonna try this. bicycle from hanoi to ho chi minh city, in vietnam. i am trying to get my girlfriend into this, but she wants to try it on a tandem. if anything, maybe it will be reason to buy a cyclocross bike. i pray to God, i am not all talk :D
(for my 50th, maybe ride a motorcycle across spain or something) |
That's 14 years away....
Maybe I'll buy myself a 993. It might be affordable for me by then...and it will be a "classic". |
Wife has informed me that 40 will be the next time I'm "allowed" to buy another Porsche...I'm thinking the '05, '06 997s should be fairly affordable by then...that's 6 years for me....

My wife took me to vegas for my 40th - we had a big time!
|
Cliff, you can't make it to an autocross in Alameda, how are you gonna bike from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh?
|
I don't know why, but 40 hit me hard - didn't think it would. Two months after my 40th birthday I started my own business, knew I was running out of time I guess.
|
16 months away for me. No clue what I'll do, but it will likely be expensive.
|
ZOANAS, nailed it 1st try-too easy
Wife tried to make a big deal about the 40th; being the grumpy old man that I am, I blew it off. I think I tinkered on the car all day then went to dinner in the eve. |
zoanas, you deck! :D. i'll be there tomorrow! (rick, i actually gotta talk to you about rear bushings)
and chrisC, looks like we are very close in age. go to vietnam with me. maybe will will find an earlyS in some rice paddy, or a stack of mahle gas burners in a village. haha. |
Cliff, here's the irony: I can't make it tomorrow. I have to get the castle ready to put on the market. Gimme a call re: the bushings. It went pretty smoothly.
|
you are selling your house!!!?
|
Ahhh man! Rick talkin' smack and then pulls the carpet out???
:) Oh well, gives us a better shot at moving up the list of times. Cliff, why don't you climb Mt. Shasta? It is an EPIC trip that you will never forget, close, nearly free AND you can take your woman if she is willing. I've done it several times and it is amazing. See you in the morning! -Chris PS - 40 Cliff? I would have never guessed! |
I dunno yet, but I have til Sept 11 to decide :) I wanted to take a trip to the Motherland (Germany), but with moving, it will not be happening. I'll probably do a driving school of some sort, maybe skydiving, or some other crazy thing :)
|
I was planning on going to Antarctica... by myself. But then a few buddies wormed their way into my plans and we ended up going to Hawaii to skydive and party. Turned out great!
|
Most likely, Cliff. Either moving up here in town, or heading to the islands.
|
Had two strippers and a lot of tequila.
Lots of friends and a bad hangover . Oh, yeah, I umm, had to get in shape for that one too, yeah... |
Hi Cliff,
I'm about 1.5 years away from that event myself. I can already tell its going to hit me hard. I like your idea of some epic physical event. Its got me thinking... Africa for a safari? Germany? GT3 (yea right!), something. Troy |
I've got 10 months to go. Originally I had planned on a marathon or something, but have decided on a big party at Mandalay Bay.

Northridge Earthquake, that morning, cost me about $40K, no earthquake insurance.
