Check out this seafaring '48 Mercury...those inventive Cubans!

Check this out:

http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/06/09/cuban.taxi.ap/index.html

The guy that built this car/boat gets to stay in the US with his family. He tried two other times but was sent back, but he had proper paperwork this time. Welcome to the USA! We can always use some more good Republican-voting Cubans.

I've been to Cuba and the people there are great! It's amazing the ingenuity they have to keep all those pre-'59 revolution American cars running on that island. They deserve a good government...can't wait until Cuba is freed from their socialist dictator.

Angry

"Under the U.S. "wet foot-dry foot" policy, Cubans intercepted at sea are generally returned to Cuba and those who make it to U.S. soil are usually allowed to stay."

What is this "intercepted" business? If they are still under way and not foundering - why stop them?

Because they aren't entering the USA at a valid entry point, either an airport, seaport, or border crossing. And they need to apply for asylum in the USA before they're allowed to come.

This guy had all the paperwork and an asylum grant, but Castro's government had denied him a flight out of Cuba. So he built his unique "boat". Great story if you ask me.
