Now this is a court system

Some of you might have heard about this. A guy back east, maybe New Jersey, kills his girlfriend with some hammer strokes to the head.

Dude gets caught maybe ten years later, I believe through a DNA match. He goes to trial, but the jury wont convict him of murder. They decided it was a lesser offense of manslaughter, and so administered their verdict.

Well, the state had a statute of limitations on manslaughter, and when he was arrested he was beyond that. The jury was not allowed to know about the statute of limitations because the defense said that would have forced them to convict on murder.

Well of course! A hammer repeatedly to the head seems to me to be murder.

Regardless, the jury convicted him, and he then walked away a free man. Ahh the logic. I love our court systems.

Unbelievable.

"Killer freed for statute of limitations"

LYNDHURST, NJ, United States (UPI) -- The family of a New Jersey teen beaten to death with a hammer is furious that the convicted killer will serve no time in prison.

Marc Ferrara was found guilty of aggravated manslaughter this week in the death of 17-year-old Rosie Lorincz.

However, because the crime occurred in 1982 and Ferrara was found guilty of manslaughter, with five-year statute of limitations, he will serve no time in prison, the New York Daily News reported Saturday.

Had Ferrara been convicted of murder, for which there is no statute of limitations, he could have faced life in prison.

"It just doesn`t seem fair," said Andrea Lorincz, the victim`s sister. "He walks free, and we are left without a sister and a daughter, and no justice."

Somebody should introduce HIS head to a sledgehammer and then go into hiding for 10 years...

What's the problem here? According to some on the MJ threads, the court has ruled... so it must be right. If he wasn't convicted of murder, he OBVIOUSLY didn't commit murder. You guys need to get with the times!

Jeebus! That's TRUE??

That should not have been reduced to manslaughter. I think there should be some Constitutional amendment forbidding 'bargaining' in murder cases. If evidence can prove beyond a reasonable doubt that someone viciously and violently murdered someone else... they fry.

Heck. Send that guy to Texas. We'll take care of him.

Skip was just using some other people's logic to fecitiously apply to this verdict.

I'm sure he'd want to see the bastard fry as much as I do. Cuz hey, Skip's a Texan, too! We know how to deal with murderers down here.

This case does. If that crap happened down here... there would be an old tradition brought back.... vigilante justice... He'd end up being brought to justice somehow or another.

NO PICTURES! (if you're talking about MJ. )

Just to clarify... My reference to MJ was about how some were arguing that the "court" had "spoken", regarding MJ's guilt or innocence (i.e. his actions were bizarre, not criminal - see verdict). I made the case in that other thread that sometimes the courts get it wrong... as it sounds they did in this one.

Definitely apples and oranges... but it's still courts. Or, something like that.

And, I'm not a true Texan. Born and raised in the Fla. But, we gots Old Sparky down yonder.
