Porsche Crest Pelican and Rennlist one in the same?

Pardon my ignorance, fellas.
I was just checking out Rennlist to see what was for sale and Eli from Pelican had a thread asking about new logos for Pelican.
What is the connection with them? I have always thought Rennlist was a competing forum. I am not a member there so I couldn't post a response.

Wayne and the Rennlist founder are friends from way back.

Do you mean one and the same? If so, then the answer is no.

Thanks for the correction, Denis. That misquote could be a whole different thread, couldn't it? "Sayings that are mispoken".

I guess I thought they were competition.

Rennlist and Pelican Forums are competitors of a sort.

To be precise, in my opinion:
Pelican is Much better for early 911 owners.
It's a draw for later 911s
Rennlist is Much Better for 993 owners.
PPBB.com is THE place for Boxsters
356talk is IT for 356 cars...
No harm in surfing them all !!!

A friend of mine (who had a ghia vert) dropped by one time, when I was picking up the camper kit for my '55 westy...

That's why I'm back at Pelican again. Sure the 944 forum is slow moving here compared to Rennlist, but nobody here criticizes you for your post count when you haven't paid your membership dues....

Not a problem for me, I am a member or the ones that require membership. POelican does not require membership because it's funded by a parts store, so the comparison is a tad unfair... But liek I said I don't care, I use all the tools at my disposal ! ;-)

That's one of the reasons I walked away from their forums (was one of the 1st to join and a paid member), it got a bit ridculous that every newbies 1st post was assaulted with "buy a membership". No bad reflection on the admin., it's a great site but the member's attitudes can be over the top on this.

Not really a comparison. The problem isn't with the forum nor the owner of the forum. The problem is with the members who have paid their dues to the forum, and take it upon themselves, against John(Rennlist's owner), to criticize, belittle, and insult those users who do not and did not pay for a membership.

I had well over 500 posts on that site, and they were all helping others, not requesting help for myself. When the May 2005 thread popped up about non-paying members abusing the site, I deleted most of my helpful posts, and signed off for good.

Pelican's forum is paid for and supported by them. Pelican Parts sells..... parts. Great resource for info.

Rennlist forum is paid by the members; supported by John D., the Rennlist webmaster. Rennlist survives by its membership. If you wish to contribute and take advantage of its features, John requires you to join. He also provides web space for its members - all for $17/year.

I guess there will always be those who complain.

$17.00 a year?
That's not bad. Hmmmm. I may have to join them, too.
Thanks for the info guys. Once again, the PP forum answers my question.

Yes, I spoke up when Wayne asked about charging for the Pelican forum and said I would pay if it helped the cause.

No, he doesn't. John wishes that those who find his website useful and feel they wish to give back to the community will join. But membership is NOT a requirement, per John.

It's the members that feel that bashing needs to be done, and base that bashing solely on post count.

I have my own personal webspace, and my posts were always in the sense of giving back to the community, not taking from. Therefore, I felt no need to join, and rightly so. If I had been taking from the community, then my feelings may be different, but either way you slice it, Members bashing on Non-Members is not the way to accomplish anything.

If John requires membership as you state, then he needs to take away the free membership all together, and make it to where you have to give a credit card number the minute you sign up.
