ATI Radeon X800 Pro - Whoa!!

Ok,

I just upgraded my video card in time for Battlefield 2 and the difference is literally staggering! I played the multi-player demo before and after I installed the new card and I find myself playing it, only to walk around and look at the textures. It's the first time I've ever been able to play any game, max out all the settings at the highest res and enjoy smooth, liquid movement.

I upgraded from an nVidia GeForce 4 5600XT (256mb) and I never imagined the improvement a high-end video card like the X800 would make. I know, the X800 is now superceded - like anything in PC hardware - by the new X850, but I didn't feel like getting into four figures for a video card.

Still, I'm amazed at the result. I'm glad I didn't go upgrade to a socket-775 P4 chip... Could have spent a lot of money for nothing.

So, is anybody else looking forward to BF2??

Thanks for the Battlefield2 link. Now I have something to look forward to that is non-pcar related. I have the Battlefield 1942 series, and Battlefield Vietnam, but it's been a while since I played a modern warfare game. In your opinion, is this game one of the best you've played?
I'm glad to see you get a good video card. I used to have a Radeon (8500?) Pro a couple of years ago and back then they were the top of the line. Great products. Now I have a GeForce card and it's great especially with the Windows XP Media Center Edition which I've had for about 9 months now.

Good luck gaming!

Haha. I laughed when I saw you upgraded from a 256mb card.

I've got a GeForce 4 Ti 4200 with only 128mb and consider myself pretty lucky to be able to even run Half Life 2. I had to upgrade RAM (to 1024) and processor (to XP2800+) and all I can do is run middle settings.

Mind you, it still looks great. I can only imagine what the truely fancy cards can do...

I just run a P4 3.06g (only the 533mhz FSB), 1g DDR333 (slow) RAM and this wonderous video card. I run it at max-res, with every option set to high and all my other games suddenly look sooooo much better.
