I have been 7 times for surfing and what not. Havent been in the last 5 yearsh though. It is a fantastic country and the Tica's are some of the nicest in the world. Just stay away from the capital and Jaco Beach. Those places are where the thiefs would be. Mostly from bordering countries to find easy targets.

I spent a couple of months there back in the mid-80's. Wonderful country. Stayed / worked at a camp (Campamento Roblealto), outside of San Jose De La Montana. It was a short term missions trip.

Visit the volcano and take a hike into the bush - beautiful nature everywhere.

Just got my tickets!!!

Went there 5 yrs ago and surfed my brains out. Came back and needed surgery to repair sunburn damage WEAR SUNSCREEN!!! DB is right, the place is great, Ticas are absolutely gorgeous. Very freindly, you can get around w/o spanish. Very diverse groups on holiday or working while passing thru. We met Brazilians, English, Kiwi's, Swedes...and you couldn't swing a dead cat w/o hitting someone from SoCal. money goes quite a ways. My son and I are going down Tgiving week for surf, fish and golf. I stayed on the Pacific side in Tamarindo. This time we're gonna split it up between Tam and Jaco. I'll keep DB's advice in the back of my mind. Their old saying is they're a "country of thieves and not murderers." They WILL take anything not bolted down...don't leave anything in view in a rental car. From our room we had howler monkeys outside, about 3-4 different types of parrots and a pair of peacocks that would stroll the grounds looking for food. They even came in our room a couple of times. Also geckos and iguanas. Great place to get yourself right!

He was robbed while surfing and found the robbers house.. Urine and poo everywhere!

After he found the robbers house was it your compadres number 1 and number 2 in the house? If I got robbed that'd be the 1st thing I'd do, tho not the last

Jim, If you get a chance get to Witch's Rock. You can take a boat from Tam. It is well worth it. Also Little Hawaii is just a short drive south of Tam and has/had a nice left reef break that is relaxing and then a 100yards up shore a beach break that is pounding. Our first trip to CR my dad joined us, this was about 18years ago, any way he brought all his fishing stuff. Well Tamarido was just a small dirt road with a few places to stay and one place to eat at the end of the road. Everyday my dad went fishing during our week stay in Tam he caught plenty of fish. He wouldnt keep any. The boat captain took some and the restuarant got the rest. Whatever my dad caught was the nightly special. We ate free that whole week there! My dad even found himself in the kitchen cooking up the fish a couple of times just for grins. One of the best trips ever for me. Averaged about 10hours a day of surf.

Pura Vida!

I just got back from CR 2 weeks ago... GREAT time. Wonderful country with wonderful people. Lots of things to do outside. If you dont like physical activity dont bother going to CR...but there are some great restaurants there too.

We KILLED it last time there...3' to double O in the same morning
25mph offshores would blow you back over the back of the wave...VERRRY DEEP takeoffs. Then noodled up to Ollies and it was 2' and 200 yds long. Little teeny tiny barrels...I actually stuffed myself in one. What are those little no see ums in the water there??? They would bite the $hit outta you when you touched the bottom. We were avg'ing 6-7 hrs in the water. Met an ex-pat down there, he brought in a couple yellowfin (you can see where this is going), plied him w/ drinks, next thing you know, we're knockin back 10 lbs of sashimi. Absolutely classic times, though it looked like I had been in a fire...very severe sunburn...I couldn't close my eyes to sleep. Small price to pay for the memories I'll still have when I'm doin' number 2 in a bag!
