http://www.airamericaradio.com/ If you want a version of a "sound a like" Rush in liberal clothes look no further than Ed Shultz (not my style - like Randi Rhodes, Jerry Springer and Al Franken better). http://www.therandirhodesshow.com/randirhodes/affiliates/affiliates_index.php http://www.wxdx1310.com/ed_schultz.html |
Jerry Springer and Al Franken...........
No thank you. Their names alone say enough. Charles Shultz...now there is a name that I have heard of. You take your advice from Springer and admitt it ??? |
Away from the rhetoric, there are some truisms. 1. Bad idea to invade a country in a part of the world where they hate us already. 2. No apparent exit plan. 3. On the basis of highly questionable intelligence (back to that oxymoron).
On the other hand, can anyone dispute that this guy was bad for his people and his country. Killed however many thousands of Kurds and Shiites (when they rebelled after the first Gulf War). Even if he didn't currently have WMD's, he had them before and was trying to get them again. He would have been happy to use them on Israel or sell to the highest bidder. He also skimmed millions of dollars from oil (even before oil for food) to make the palaces bigger rather than raise the living standards in the country. Finally, he decided to play a diplomatic game of chicken with the current superpower headed by a guy who wanted to finish what dad didn't. |
Actually tabs I prefer the lower case smug ;) What I'm trying to say is that regardless of how the other side acts it's difficult to hold some kind of moral high ground if your own side is engaging in pretty questionable stuff as well. You can argue all you like about the need to take certain actions (such as invading iraq) for practical purposes like resource supply, or because saddam was a bad guy (agree) but there's really no argument for throwing out agreed international conventions while you're at it.
Pointing to others and saying 'look what they're doing' is really no defence. To say that the US is the only country ever to bring human rights to the table is also pretty extreme & even if it were true, has no bearing on current actions other than to perhaps show how far the country has slid. |
