Finally saw Batman Begins...

Oh my gosh, what a movie. Five out of five stars. Excellent stuff. And Scarecrow was amazing. Finally, finally, FINALLY, he is the disturbed individual real comic people have always known him to be. They definitely got it right with his character.

All-in-all, the era of the superhero is getting something it has needed yet always had - story.

Now what about "War of the Worlds?" I wonder how that is. Hmmm....

Is it really the guy from American Psycho? I refuse to go intro theatres anymore, but I will rent it.

We only do matinees now. Nine bucks a pop for 30 minutes of commercials, and theatres are wondering why box office sales are down? Are they total f*cktards?

Yes, it is. Christian Bale. Len - you should just take off work early one day and see a matinee. Yeah, it was $9 out at The Grove in Hollywood, but damn - the movie friggin' rocked. That's how I saw Million Dollar Baby - 2:30 PM, knowing I wouldn't have to hear a bunch of women crying through it.

Bale put on something like 60 pounds worth of muscle for the role. Personally, I think Katie Holmes is a throwaway character. The Batman's too sick in the head in this flick to have a love interest. She was the "Hollywood foil" that some people think these movies need.

excellent movie. done so well that it makes you forget about the other batman movies that should have had the "POW!" baloons. one of the best comic book to silver screen adaptations. came off as a story about a man becoming a warrior. just an all around perfectly executed movie.

And I think the supporting players made it even better... Morgan Freeman, Liam Neeson, Gary Oldman, Michael Caine

All great actors

Hey guys

Would it freak out two tough kids (4/6) you think? They are pressing me to see it with them. They saw Star wars EP3, which was somewhat gory. I covered the little one's eyes during one notable scene.

David,

The only scary part was the scarecrow and his mask that he put on. Other than that if they can handle his parents dying then no problem. But just make sure you explain it to them so no nightmares. It is a judgment call but a good movie.

Four and six? No. Too much violence, too much "kill everything in Gotham" rhetoric. Too much (and too real) a method of how everyone in Gotham will be killed. Too much weighty stuff with Bruce Wayne's parents' being shot to death (which the viewer sees happen). Too much gunplay in general. And too much freakiness from the Scarecrow.

It's not at all a kids' movie. It's a movie for us who remember the Batman as kids. I'm sure, in some instances, Batman Begins can play on two levels (like the old Looney Tunes did), but this definitely is not Spiderman 2 or an iteration of Star Wars. It's a dark, brooding movie about a vigilante psychopath. As Gary Oldham (Detective Gordon) said in an interview - "I'm the only good guy in the movie." That says something...

If you do take them, just make sure they've got some damn strong constitutions, and know some history about the Batman. Otherwise, there's a lot to be afraid of in this flick for a young mind.

Wow it sounds great!
A return to the original vigilante Batman of the forties when he'd throw badguys of the roof and parents didn't want their kids reading it. - Before my time but I saw some of the older comic strips.

Thanks guys

The kids are almost 5 and 7, and they do have a strong sense of right and wrong, but I don't want to push it.

Yeah, I thought this may be more of the "Dark Knight" batman (which I like) and less of the Tim Burton Batmans of the past, which are pretty soft. My kids were fine with Spiderman I and II, which I think plays to the kids.

It's funny, though, they have really targetted younger kids, I was in a Toyz 'R Uz and they are merchandising the heck out of this, and it's action figures and little cars... Oh well, I can't wait to see it anyhow

Yep - that's how you pitch a superhero these days. When you go into a pitch session, having a good story and villains is one thing, but it's the potential for toys that really sell the idea.

I saw it in IMAX. Personally, iI think the IMAX screne it just too big. Too much action in the movie and I found I actually had to turn my head too often to see the whole screne. Great movie, just not IMAX material IMHO.
