iPod iTrip

I know most don't like the FM transmitters but for $20 I can't pass. Is it worth $20 vs. the $60-100 for others? I am thinking if I get to use it in rentals and friends cars it will be worth it.

I have no way of plugging one in on my Subie with out cutting and splicing. :-{

You can use a wired FM modulator, search that term on this board. I don't find that the iTrip works all that well - it isn't terrible, but a wired solution is a lot better.

I hear iTrip works much better outside major metro areas with 50-100 stations on the FM dial.

iTrip works good in every car I've tried... you just have to hold the iPod in a certain position in each car. Gotta find he perfect place, or you get static. Seems clumsy.

I second this and the opinion above by tech. Better to use a cassette adapter or hardwire it somehow. I've seen others wear their earbuds while driving too but I don't recommend that. I never did see how that differs from folks who blast their stereos anyway so they can't hear anything outside the cockpit.

Anything is better than the iTrip. At least the one I have is a piece of crap. Not worth $20 even. Even if you can get it to "lock" in a station on the radio, its very difficult to hold once you start driving. Just not worth the frustration. I've tried it in 5-6 different cars with similiar results in all of them.
