Favorite drum solo or music...
Mine would have to be Neil Peart--YYZ, the live version. (the earlier thread on him got me thinkin'...) What's yours? Or, what's some good drumming music?

I've always liked the drumming in "Don't You Forget About Me" by Simple Minds. Just a good, well thought-out drum track.

Bonzo's Montreaux - Led Zeppelin.
John Bonham - Best Drummer Ever! IMHO.

OK, this is very random, but I've always like the drums on The Screaming Trees, "Nearly Lost You". Also, Bill Ward's (Black Sabbath) drumming on "Neon Knights" (one of the Ronnie James Dio albums).
If I had to pick a favorite, it would be a Neil Peart song though - probably "The Trees"....and while I'm at it, the percussion that Neil does during the credits of the Rush in Rio DVD sound great on my old Klipsch kg4s at high volume... :>) Mike

Mine is not a recording you can purchase, but live in concert. It was Metallica in 1991 at the Forum in Los Angeles. Lars Ulrich, the drummer, and James Hetfield, the singer/rythm guitar player played this awesome joint drum solo battle where they played off each other and against each other. They each had their own drum sets that were on moving platforms that moved around the stage as they played. It hands down is my favorite drum solo of all time.

I agree Ginger Baker rules (or ruled at one time at least) Carl Palmer was no slouch or Corkey Lang for that matter.

I know it's not a solo, but the drumming on 'White Room' is phenomenal. If you've ever travelled long distances by train, you'll "get" it. Someone's got to say it, Mickey Hart and Bill Kreutzmann. I could listen to that stuff for hours in college... Danny Carey The stuff he can do is just amazing.

Hands down, Ginger Baker "Toad" - 15 minute drum solo when he was with Eric Clapton in "Cream". Saw him live. Just absolutely effing incredible.
Many say every heavy metal drummer that followed was emulating Ginger in some way. |

Neil Peart - Talented guy. I think he must have 4 arms or something. Always kinda liked the one section of Xanadu off the Rush - Farewell to Kings album. Many other great songs and more technical performances, but that one stuck in my mind for some reason.
Steve Jordan's performance on Messin' with the Kid on Blues Brother's Briefcase full of blues. Great feel. Does Freddie Green count as a drummer? He pretty much kept the time for Basie's band for many years even though he played guitar. Others I like. Steely Dan almost anything they've recorded.... Donald Fagen - The Nightfly Some of the offbeat stuff done by Sting in some of his solo albums. I really like the Bring On the Night Live Discs. I guess I'm surprised no one's mentioned Jeff "Tain" Watts, Tito Puente, Phil Collins(think Genesis), or Bill Bruford. Glad to see Dave Brubeck mentioned. I'm probably just weird in my tastes.
