Men who wear bags

I'm not talking about purses but rather like stuff-it-all bags slung across the shoulders. Fairly common in Europe but seems in the US, people think only fairies should wear them.

A few years ago, my family vacationed in Italy and I did what the Romans do and wore such a bag. It was great in that I didn't have to stuff my pockets with train schedules, museum info, food, etc. All of it, except for cash/traveller's checks/ID which goes in my money belt, went in the bag. So when I got back to the states, I kept it up....for a while.

I don't think it was just my imagination. Men who wear bags in the states are treated differently. It doesn't matter if the bag is black and obviously not feminine. Unless it's a backpack, you can be mistaken for playing for the other team.

Taking my bag out of storage now in preparation for our vacation. When I get back, don't none of you local Pelicans snicker when you see me wearing it.

It's not a purse, it's a European carry-all!

I have a canvas briefcase. I should just get a leather one. In addition to labor agreements and drug test stuff, it also serves as my purse. Oop, did I say that?

Excuse me, gentlemen, but how does a carry all bag differ from a briefcase fer crying out loud? One has a shoulder strap and one has a hand grip.

bryan..that remark is strong even for you.

Get over the macho BS and fear of something different. If I want to go to the park for a while to read, I ain't carrying a briefcase to house my book and sandwich. Especially if I am in shorts, tee and sandals.

THen again, some of you might just want to dig out your Incredible Hulk tin lunchbox....

I have a small organizer that houses my PDA, credit cards, and other stuff. My wife and son call it a man purse.

Many many years ago a client of ours would come to our office with a purse of sorts. He was from Germany or Austria ( I cannot recall right now). My boss would crack up every time he would leave our office and make fun of the guys purse. The funny part was the guy could buy my boss 10x over. I always thought he was sophisticated and cool. I always thought my boss was insecure feeling the need to make fun of the guy.

I am using a wallet right now. I found it difficult to carry my "man purse with a baby on tow. He is almost 2 and I am about to switch back. I like having everything I need with me.

Another option which I understand is very popular in NYC right now is a courier bag. I have one of those in my closet. I purchased in in Brooklyn about 4 years ago and found it to be very handy. Its sort of a masculine alternative to a shoulder bag, I guess.. If what others think about you matters. I honestly never care what others think.

Try wearing a red shirt to Disney on Gay days by accident. You're basically immune to anything after that.

I'd like to think that I'm a man by not having a bag, but when I wake up every morning, I wear two under my eyes........

We only laugh if your shoes don't match your purse.

Most of the time when I see a guy carrying a fanny pack like that I assume it has a rather large hand cannon hiding in it somewhere...

Actually, the trip was great and it was a lot of fun. my boss lived there for some years, so he showed me around and whatnot... it was interesting. SF didn't sour me at all, but come on... I'll eat my hat if I didn't see five guys walking down the street carrying purses each day I was there.

I know a guy that carries a bag. It's a great big ugly one, and every time he's out in public, she is hanging all over him. It really IS an ugly sight.
