Pinks.................
The 'new' car related reality show on Speed (nascar)Channel.....................sucks -IMO
The premise is based on 'real' street drag racing where the two oponents each put their car and title up for grabs; winner take all. The main problem on this show is the vehicles are not nearly matched in performance or actual street value. Like racing apples against oranges. The 'negotiation' between competitors is rediculous. "I'll only spot you 7 car lengths if you don't use the nitrous" I have done a lot of street racing in my time, cars and Harleys. And I'm not talking about the taking the family car out to the local Sat night deal. I'm taking about barely street legal cars, sometimes with grooved slicks, exhaust cut-outs, BIG engines, BIG nitrous kits and BIG blowers. Sometimes just full-on drag cars with partial mufflers. The "Pink Slip" race has always been about the two top dogs. The fastest in the area. This is serious stuff. It IS about the new guy in town challenging the existing fastest car or bike by pitting his vehicle AND title to the winner. It takes BIG b*lls to even agree to race. This show is just a Hollywood poser and disspointment. A desperate try to steal ratings from the Disco channel. :( |
I agree. Saw it (the one where Troy won?)
At a track "late at night", as if it were real illegal racing.... Waste of time. |
They should send a camera crew over to the Flint North side if they want to see real street racing. I know several guys that race out here. Like I said in a previous post, the host would have beaten up quickly with an attitude like his. I give SPeed credit for trying something different, though. Try starting a race with 18 wheeler bearing down on the starting line on a major freeway. Yikes!!! It motivates you to get going, to say the least.

Lots of artificial drama and stress added for effect.
Oh well, still beats the heck out of Speed's "Texas Hardtails" which is American Chopper meets Reno 911. |
I know the Detroit street scene was and probably the original place where the absolute baddest of the bad came out to dual.
Here in Northern Va (about 50 miles southwest of DC) the street scene was really something in the late 80's. A few local hard-hitters: '34 chevy sedan w/6-71 huffed roller-cammed 406 that would routinely run 10:30's in the quarter. A t-bucket roadster with a huffed 496 that would run slightly quicker. A back-halved 88 z-28 camaro sporting a 10-71 huffed 500 inch injected on alcohol the would absolutely go into the 9's. All in 'street' trim. Never seen these guys do 'slips but the most $$ on a single race that I witnessed was 4 large! |

Let's hope neither one has children. . Speed puts on this crap and ignores the Isle of Man TT. Amazing! |
It's pretty alive here in florida - Miami/Ft. Lauderdale and Tampa Bay - lots of 10 second cars here that fit the "barely" street legal personna.
The show sucks |
I saw one episode, that was enough. The one guy was constantly complaining that the other competitor brought a "race car" while his was 99% stock. I guess he didnt understand the fact that it was a race.

bunch a crap, head on out to I80/94 just south of chicago at about 3AM and you will see the real thing, and with real cars
i was once driving a customers car (97 supra twin turbo compleatly custom) and in the rearview i saw a few sets of headlights aways back on this empty stretch of road, then i look back at the road and about 4-5 seconds later there is a beautiful black viper flying past me at an easy 150mph, then that is followed by a yellow gt3 (i think) and a ferrari 360 right behind it. so, curious to get a better view of the cars i downshift and, just royaly give this supra hell, but im climing up to about 165 and not even starting to catch up. i never caught up (obviously) but the next day at my dealership job i ask our finance guy (who drives the same route everyday) and he says that hes seen it happening for like the last 4 years pretty wicked sight to see |
The "speed" channel needs to go out to some of these locals where real street racing takes place and do a docu-drama or just sit there and film what really happens between fast street cars.
Now that would be worth watching! |
