OS X Safari: Popup blocking broken?
Any other OS X users noticing a high number of popups getting through on Safari? Is there some plugin or fix we can do, or do we have to wait for a Safari update? Software update doesn't give me anything... I always check there first.
My systems both are OS X 10.4.1, Safari 2.0 (412) I would use Firefox, but it used to take forever to start the app, and for bonus points it would randomly peg my CPU 100% for no reason whatsoever, so I gave up on it completely. Anyone else have these problems, or should I just try FF again? |
Been using the full Mozilla suite for so long now that I can't remember how long it's been. Have had no issues.

Full mozilla suite on my linux boxes. I do get popups occasionally, usually spawned by flash objects, but I use the userContent.css feature to not bother displaying the contents of *many* ads, in-page, banners, etc. Blocks viewing content (you still dl it, you just dont gotta look at it) based on matching strings likely to be found in advertising type URLs. I also do a lot of adblocking by null-routing certain hosts in my hosts files (c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts on xp, sub windows for winnt for win2k, back to windows for 98, /etc/hosts in linux or os x) by pointing their names to 0.0.0.0.
I see so few ads its really kinda sad. :) |
Try Camino, smallest, fastest out there. no issues with pop-up blocking and 10.3.9

I'm not getting any popups on Safari / OS X 10.4.1
