How to Really win the war against terrorists
Setting all political correctness aside, all worrying about "rights of privacy", worrying about hurting peoples feelings and from a purely "the end justify the means" perspective, how can terrorists be defeated? Is it even possible? Or can it only be minimized? There will come a day when its here in the US again, school bombings, air/food supply disrupted, dirty nukes--how bad will it have to get before we take the steps necessary?
|
edit: wasn't relevant to this thread specific topic.
|
This question was put forth disregarding all political boundaries and concerns. I'm thinking only really radical solutions would be totally effective.

what steps are you referring to? Kyle |
"what steps are you referring to?" -- thats what I'm trying to get at--what would be necesary?
|
Eradicate both terrorists and that which supports their cause.

Good start, but I think our thread originator is looking for specifics |
The only way to stop trerrorism is to bring them to the conclusion that it has no effect on policy/politics...and gets them killed really painfully.
|
That is still not specific; rather an ideal result.
How do we bring them to that conclusion? |
Don't give into their demands as Spain did, Knock off the anti-war rhetoric....about another vietnam, etc., calling them insugents, modermn minutemen, etc....Finish in Iraq, then Afghanistan, then continue wherever they are until it stops or they are all gone.

Incentives. Install capitalist infrastructure into countries that host terrorism. No joke: most people would rather have a pair of Levis on their ass and a Coke in their hand than a finger on an AK-47.
But about the capitalist infrastructure - it as in the corporations, not the people to whom the insfrastructure is supplied, had better be monitored very closely. The fastest way for America to lose graces with a country is to allow the American companies to pull wealth out of the country itself. |

Of course they did. Don't you remember that immediately before the election...polls indicated the incumbents were far ahead. The terrorist attack happened and the polls changed immediately...and the incumbents lost.

Fint,
The incumbent's governments error was to blame ETA for the bombings rather than let the 'truth' out... It was this mis information that destroyed the incumbent government.. the bombings themselves would not have achieved this...but lying about it did. Hence the ackonwledgement this week very early on that Al'Queeda cells were responsible... After all its pretty difficult for 'authority' to admit that a group, already under scrutiny can operate with so much impunity in your own backyard.. Its easier (!?) to blame somebody everybody suspencts anyway... |
This is easy. Inflict so much pain that thay abandon their cause.

Take objective number one right out of the terrorist handbook and turn it against them, that'll fix'em, yeah that's it; that's the ticket. Why, we'll just inflict pain until we get the result we want. Simple, yet brilliant! Another example of how we're just sooo much smarter and civilized than them. |
