mine is i had a 61 bug when i joined , and im from saskatoon

speeder 07-22-2005 12:37 AM

Funny that this should come up; I have been thinking about retiring my screen name and just using my actual name. I was very late to the web, did not own a (working) computer until 2001. I also bought a 911SC that spring and found Pelican.

It never occurred to me that you could just use your real name, plus I probably had some illusion about privacy on the web.

"Speeder" certainly isn't the worst handle, and it is fitting since I am a congenital speed limit *stretcher*, ;), but on the other hand I have never been one for nicknames and I sometimes forget that I am "speeder" on this board. I was at a Porsche gathering a while ago and Wayne D., (our host and owner of Pelicanparts), walked up behind me calling "speeder". I did not turn around at first, (I have a bad ear and thought that he was calling "Peter" to someone else), it finally dawned on me that he was calling me. (I felt stupid). :D

When I got the Porsche I wanted to get the license plate "speeder", which I thought was funny, but someone already has it in CA. of course. That's how the whole thing started.

The only thing that keeps me from *****canning the name is that my friend Jason B., (Mulholland), would probably re-register and snatch it up. :D

Shuie 07-22-2005 04:05 AM

Mine is what i answered to from childhood through college. I have no idea where it came from or how the spelling was derived. It never stuck once I was out of school and working.

pookie 07-22-2005 04:29 AM

I did always wonder about some peoples names...but mine came from an intramural softaball team I was on in college. They asked what nickname I wanted on my jersey and since I had always been called by my last name, or by Ryano as a variant of my first name I told them I didn't care as long as it wasn't Ryan/ryano/ or my last name, or any variation. So they go to hand out the jerseys and they say here's yours, I look and sure enough it has "Pookie" on the back. I was like "dude where did pookie come from?" Well apparently they had a Ray/Ray and a Re-run and figured Pookie would be able to carry along with he theme. I never thought it would stick, but man did it ever. Nothing like being at a party talking to some hottie and one of your buddies starts hollering at you calling you Pookie. The band thing is that my wife picked up on it and now when I play softball with some of my cop buddies she called me it and it stuck with them. Cops are relentless about nicknames by the way. The good thing is that all the boards I go to no one has that name. Makes it real nice when I have to register as I can use the same name everywhere. So if you see pookie somewhere it is probably me.

DaveE 07-22-2005 04:54 AM

I guess I'm a totally uncreative radical liberal. My first name and last initial.

VINMAN 07-22-2005 04:55 AM

My friends started calling me Vinman back in the early 80's
Guess it has something to do with my name, Vinny. supposedly it was from some movie too.

Porsche virgin 07-22-2005 05:00 AM

When I first starting reading this forum, I had never owned my own P-car. So, obviously, I was a Porsche Virgin.

Jeff Higgins 07-22-2005 05:23 AM

I used to go by "tripod" but I've gotten more modest lately.

yellowline 07-22-2005 05:24 AM

My car's instrumentation is in yellow. Ergo, "yellowline."

Sadly, I don't think I've run my car up to 6400, or even 6k. Someday I will when I'm assured about my engine, T-belt, and I'm feeling malevolent. I'll use the photographic evidence of the tach as my avatar, too.

legion 07-22-2005 05:33 AM

Legion is the name of a character in a book I read several years ago. I adopted the name for video games (Legend of Zelda and such). When the web appeared, I just continued to use it.

pookie is a slang name for a woman's place in the Philippines. a girl i dated years ago had a Filipino nanny and we always referred to her open faced roast beef sandwich as her "pookie". i enjoyed the time i spent around her pookie.

id10t 07-22-2005 07:18 AM

One of my favorite help desk sayings... eye-dee-ten-tee error... id10t.

Pebkac was hard for me to remember... (problem exists between keyboard and chair)

KevinP73 07-22-2005 07:19 AM

OOOOh screen names, now that sound like fun. Where can I get one?

TerryBPP 07-22-2005 07:52 AM

When I first got aol I had to come up with a screen name. I figured Terry beacuse that my first name and then I was flipping through the channels and came acrossed WCW wrestling. There was the HUGE steroid ripped guy on there name Big Papa Pump. So I figured it would be funny, due to the fact that I never watch wrestling, to use his initials, therefore BPP. Its just carried over since then.

Westy 07-22-2005 08:28 AM

Hi everyone, my name is WESTY and I'm a neocon! I'm also a proud member of the right.

Actually my name is too friggin long. Automated mail cuts off the last two letters, I can't fit my signature on the back of the VISA card, and there's not enough room in the work schedule blocks to write it in, so my bosses started writing in Westy, a shortened version of my name. Pretty soon everyone started calling me Westy and it stuck.,,,,,,,,OK not everybody, there were some orther things I was called, but that's another story.

gatotom 07-22-2005 08:55 AM

aahhh...tomcat aka gatotom has been with me forever. My other nic yrs ago was twinkle toes  in my prime I was a ski racer whose best event was slalom, had really fast feet....liked the nic gatotom better.

hey, tom the chiropractor.....its good to know there is another tom the chiropractor out there SmileWavy

VaSteve 07-22-2005 12:19 PM

I am also a railfan (look it up). A lot of railroaders identify themselves with who they are and where they are and a cool logo when tagging the sides of box cars with chalk.

I have no cool logo, but I used VaSteve. Va is for Virginia, but most people read it as "V. A. Steve" when they meet me.

But I guess here on OT I could be Red State Steve :P since one must align with either treehugging-bleeding-heart-liberals or flag-waving-fire-breating-neocons. No room for moderates or the confused on the Internet. :D

bryanthompson 07-22-2005 12:22 PM

Off-topic forum is a collection of threads which are off-topic from the tech and classified forums. That doesn't mean that just because the threads are off-topic that they have to become off-topic within themselves. You can have an off-topic thread, and still have its contents stay on said topic.

Oops, sorry, that was off-topic.

juanbenae 07-22-2005 12:26 PM

thank you for your support BT. feeling feverish?

for the record i was kidding about staying "on topic"

rob macdonald 07-22-2005 12:43 PM

I used to be rob944 but fell off the board for a while...when I returned I my IRL and email address had changed, plus I'd forgotten my password...so in keeping things simple, I used my name...and for sure, I'm a plain old con...

Isabo 07-22-2005 01:02 PM

ISABO = ISABelle O'neil

When my sister was little and annoyed with me and about to tantrum she used to call me "Isabo" as she couldn't manage "Isabelle O'Neil!!!!" Isabo became a family nickname, but I'm usually called Isa.

For what I see that you've done, reading your sig, you were better off with the RX. Aftermarket support on the S/Q is pretty bad, and most motor swaps require a MIG/TIG and a Plasma cutter.

I'm seriously considering a 6G72 swap in the future, that would be the Twin Turbo DOHC 3000GT VR4 motor. I've got a MIG and an Oxy/Acetylene torch so why not? :D

scottmandue 07-22-2005 03:00 PM

Being something of a amateur philosophy/theology student I always liked the sound of Kathmandu so in the never-ending (ten second) search for a screen name I slapped my name on the front and for no apparent reason (other than being a moron who can't spell) added a "e" to the end.
Than and it sounded better than scottmachupichu.

Overpaid Slacker 07-22-2005 05:16 PM

My overachieving nature, naturally.

When I first adopted the nickname, I was billing 300-325 hours a month at a huge law firm in New York City (that equates to working 330-350 hours a month).

It was that or Giraffe (6'5" and spotted... you do the math).

nostatic 07-22-2005 05:24 PM

I wanted to be JackOlsen but it was taken. I tried to kill him and assume his identity but some b@stard ratted me out. That put me on the run for a few years, where I lived selling atonal apples and amplified heat. When the TRO expired I came back to LA only to find some other nimrod had taken my second choice, notastic. Luckily I'm a creative speller...

I've often thought of switching my name to "LUGNUTS". Just sounds right.

tabs 07-23-2005 01:40 AM

When I was a mere child Mother would often blurt out in fustration.."Why is it everything U do... throughly a$$ backwards." After awhile she'd say. "Oh he's just being Tabs again." I guess it just stuck....

tabs 07-23-2005 01:50 AM

Jackie OOOO...Ohhhhh Jackie OOOOO........I don't which has more personality BB2 or Jackie OOOO.....anybody who posts soooo many pictures of their car has some deep seated insecurities....about their value in the world....Anybody who spends so much time admiring their image in the mirror will fall in and drown....

cool_chick 07-23-2005 04:16 AM

For me, it's a lack of a creative brain. I couldn't think of anything at the time.
