I had no idea that VW was in that much trouble. And I found this interesting:
"Past co-operation between Porsche and VW has made the sports car maker vulnerable. Its record profits, notched up year by year, disguise the risk of its business. It has become increasingly dependent on co-operation with its peer and if VW were to fall into the hands of a hedge fund, Porsche would be exposed. "

The Porsche share price dropped on the news of the purchase - they did not drop the intent to purchase the 20%.
