Anyone know of a handwheel handle supplier? (for Lathe, Mill etc)

Confused, huh?

I have a few handwheels at home that are in need of the screw-in handles. The threaded stem snaps off relatively easy when moving the machine and bumping into something.

Anyway, I can't find a supplier of these. The entire wheel/handle assembly is quite pricey.

Here's what I'm looking for......

I've got a ctalog from them here ...somewhere..but I'm pretty sure they had both handles and handle/whell assemblies.

Try Reid Tool (I think they are on-line now).

Rick, ya still workin on that lathe? Ever find or fix the piece?

RickM 08-02-2005 12:49 PM

Never fixed, Vinny.
I'm thinking of setting up that furnace and sand casting a replica in Aluminum.
I was going to sell this Lathe to get a smaller one but decided to fire it up and start turning. Making a phase converter as well since it has a 3-Phase Varidrive motor.

Rick, I have an electronic phase converter you can have. You near Somerville/Clinton?

Can't you 'turn' the knob on a the lathe? Drill the center so it will slide over a cap head screw as a shaft.

RickM 08-02-2005 05:41 PM

Alan,

I'm north of Somerville, 'bout 15-20 minutes on 287. I appreciate the offer on the converter. Will it work on a 3/4 hp motor? If so perhaps we can meet up for a beer or I can come down to Flemington.

Also, I could drill out the center and make a shaft for a revolving handle...or drill and tap the base of the broken hande and attach via screw through the wheel. I figured I'd try to replace as easily as possible though

It is an Autogen Model CD14 rated for 3-6 HP. http://www.gwm4-3phase.com/autogen.html
Don't know if it will work with smaller motor. Are you an NNJR member? If so, I could bring to meting next week.

RickM 08-03-2005 05:30 AM

Where are the meetings?
I used to be a member but haven't been there for a while.
