Officer gave me a warning...

I can't remember the last time I just got a warning (I was speeding). Anyway, nice guy, no ticket. Dumb question... a warning does not go on your record, correct?

yeah, that's correct. I've gotten probably a dozen warnings, never a ticket.

yep, respect the officer and they will respect you. And you can't be faking it... they're good like that.

Depends on what you mean by record.

In Illinois we have verbal warnings and written warnings. Written warnings are logged, so that the next time you are pulled over for the same offense, a differenct officer can see that this is not the first time and give you a ticket [edit: I originally said "warning"].

Neither kind of warning constitutes a violation, so they will not affect insurance.

This was a written warning so I was wondering about the paper trail. I was polite and admitted I was speeding, I think that helped.

Did you get warnings both times?

I've been pulled over 5 times for speeding, I've gotten one warning (when I had the 300D). Most officers have never even asked for an explanation, just asked for license and insurance and come back with a ticket. I've never said more than "yes sir" or "no sir" to an officer. One decided to give me the riot act about scraping motorists off of the pavement....

The thing I've found though is a white male under 25 driving a nice car will get a ticket 95% (posterior calculation) of the time. The average for females (another posterior calculation) seems to be more around 33%--really only if you show attitude.

I got caught speeding once 75 in a 55, got a warning. Second time was 85 in a 55, got a $250 ticket, the officer was nice though. No lectures, no problems, he was a pretty nice guy. Got it reduced to $180.
