A couple minutes later, we leave the base and begin the drive downtown; passing spots where so many car bombs and IEDs have exploded. Within a few blocks, we are 15 seconds from rolling over a large bomb buried under the road.

15 Seconds...

At least two terrorists are watching our approach, pretending to talk to a taxi driver. One holds a Motorola radio transmitter in his pants pocket.

14 Seconds...

13 Seconds...

The bombs are buried under the road ahead of us, on a route to the police station.

12 Seconds...

11 Seconds...

We are in a big Stryker. Usually the IEDs just make the ears ring--I wear earplugs--or maybe knock an air-guard or two unconscious, filling the cabin with so much fine dust that it looks like smoke. I’ve often wondered if this fine dust sometimes ignites when the armor ruptures, adding to the flashover that burns so many soldiers inside.

10 Seconds...

9 Seconds...

Sometimes IEDs blow through the Stryker, launching it into the air, and critically or fatally injuring the people inside. Odd body parts will often be left unscathed, such as a severed hand in a black glove on the road. About 43 Americans have died here during the past ten days.

8 Seconds...

7 Seconds...

The men are cautiously watching us, still talking among themselves. The transmitter is armed. A push of the button might make the final dispatch.

6 Seconds...

A terrorist is preparing to push the button, but the timing's got to be just right…not yet…not yet…we are almost there…

5 Seconds...

Wow...heavy reading.

Did you watch the Daily Show last night? The guest portion of the show was all about soldiers as bloggers.

Very interesting stuff.

I caught it, interesting indeed.

How long had that reporter been in a wheel chair?

lendaddy 08-11-2005 09:44 AM

yeah, i did. what mag was that article going to be published in?

lenn, it may be on comedy central, and i laugh my ace off every night watching it, but its more news worthy that many news outlets. its as left as fox is rightwing, neocon catering to. i understand why you prolly don't, or won't like it, as it is very critical of the bush administration. it has been claimed that 80% of its audience is high on pot, however when i watch it i wonder what the three stooges, W, dick, and rummy have been smoken.

and i am only in the 80% 50% of the time.

lendaddy 08-11-2005 10:40 AM

What was I suppose to get from that clip? They cut and clipped and edited it for humor, not information.

This does help me understand your misplaced and illinformedrage toward fox though.:)

I had watched 'The Daily Show' from the beginning. I remember when Craig Kilbourn was the host and he did 'five questions'. The show took a hard left before the last election, and hasn't returned....nor have I.

What is that they say about closed minds?

bryanthompson 08-11-2005 10:47 AM

Craig Kilbourn is the badassest mofo in all the land. Five questions kicked ass, and the Late Late Show is just gold.

edit: was just gold.

And I'm sure you watch Bill O'Reilly.

I don't watch Jon Stewart anymore because the show has degraded into repeating the same leftist truisms over and over. Apparently being funny isn't a concern anymore.

Well there's the double standard of the day...

legion 08-11-2005 10:57 AM

Don't you know?

Open minded is liberal double-speak for only listening to liberal ideas and rejecting any conservative thought as close-minded. I learned that in college. http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/...oilet_claw.gif

WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN? Haven't you seen my other posts on many real world comparisons between Fox and CNN? Just ask Joel, he'll tell you. LOL!!!!!!!! YES! I watch O'Reilly, H&C, FoxNews in general, Brit Hume. You are so bagged dude.

I watch CNN, mostly Lou Dobbs and Aaron Brown. I watch Hardball now and again. I watch Meet the Press religiously every Sunday night.

That's how (I think) I have such informed opinions and share them as such. The fact that you are limited to Fox means that you limit your argument. I do not suffer such an affliction.

Take a look at the sole of you shoe man. You're going to need new sneakers.

Keep your friends close, keep your enemies closer.

Wise words for you, no charge.

bryanthompson 08-11-2005 11:00 AM

I found that out when my poli-sci prof kept coming up with hand-outs that were printed directly from commondreams.org. I made a point to roll my eyes at him. Then he'd go into a tirade about Rush, Hannity, oil, stealing the election, blah blah blah. It was good times. We never got anything done in that class.

There's no way you went to college cube farm boy.

shaun, easy on the personal attacks. Just because you hang around sassy little girls all day doesn't mean you have to come to the board with the same attitude.

Bryan, you're right. I've been going off a lot lately. Just tired of things exactly what our friend legion just did. it's really disappointing when you are trying to have a good discussion.

Guys like Matt, Jeff, Tim. That's what it's all about.
