So maybe it wasn't just good old slave labour and ufo's after all?
New theory on how Stonehenge was built:

very interesting.

way cool! I bet a similar technique was used to make the pyramids and the stone structures in Peru. So simple it is completely plausable.
Reminds me of rolling 400lb drums of oil around - just tip to balence and they can be rolled anywhere. |
Ok, that's neat. I'll give props to any guy who can pick up multi-ton rocks on their own, with no steel or modern mechanical aids.
|
Very cool. This is the kind of stuff the Intelligent Design folks should see.
|
Cool. Moving the barn was great.
There is another technique that they theorized might have been used at Stonehenge. It involves building a set of wood rails, greasing them with butter and then sliding the blocks on the rails. Apparently it works well and there is at least some archeological evidence to back up the technique. BTW: If you've ever been to Stonehenge, you will realize the REAL MYSTERY is why the Brits put the highway so close to a national treasure. |
Shaun, would you mind backfilling me? What do the ID-types teach about Stonehenge?
|
I have always imagined it was built by Catherine Zeta-Jones look-alikes in tight animal skin outfits. The chubby Limey does not do it for me.

We don't know how Stonehenge was created either and since it's engineering complexity is beyond what we would expext from early man, many have posited that it was aliens, or more simply, an outside force. So I'm saying that ID folks should watch this piece and hopefully understand that what the scientific community didn't understand at one point in time (which is newly defined as a dimension in and of itself) can now be explained. Sort of the "earth is flat" theory until Columbus came along. Faith is better placed in patience, research and education than in an unknown entity in which by definition you can't explain. Circular logic at it's best. |
Ahh Shaun that won't work for them. God defies logic AND gravity.

Can someone give me synopsis?
Just did the 1/2 hour download (dial up) an there was nothing there, all though i heard voices as I downloaded... |
Basically the guy uses pivot points to balence huge stones to turn and move them into place. If you ever tried to move a 400lb drum of oil, just tip it on an edge and roll it along the edge. The edge is the pivot point. The trick is the balence but almost anyone can do it with a little practice and it doesn't require much strengh. Although I have seen certain idiots tip over a drum of oil because, well, they are idiots.
The large stones edge is first lifted with levers. He moves the large blocks by putting a small stone under them and the turns them on the stone. As far as how he figuered out the actual placing of the big blocks, he just see-saws the large blocks and continues to increase the degree of attack by increased the pinion hieght till he gets to a point where one end can slide into a hole with little effort. The block gets staightened by washing out the sand beneath it and leveraging till plumb. He sure does make it look tit easy but he did admit he has banged his head and dropped some blocks. |
