Soldier Send Off Party

A man and woman at my work are being sent to Iraq SOON. There is a party Sat. night for them. I dont know who woman is, but the guy is a jerk. He carries an attitude and does not seem friendly at all despite a couple attempts by me to talk. He parks in visitors spaces all the time. His car was even towed once and he threatened to quit unless it was brought back, which it was.

I support our troops everywhere and kind of feel I need to go to this party and shake his hand despite my opinion.
What would you do?

He's not getting the send off party because he's a nice guy. I'm sure I wouldn't have two things to say to half the guys in Iraq if I ran into them in a social setting. That doesn't mean I don't respect them and what they're doing.

Whether you like him or not personally, decide whether to shake his hand based on how you feel about what he's going to go do.

Austin, don't feel like you need to be on a guilt trip. You can still support the troops without supporting this assshole. I wouldn't go and I'm a Vet.

Go to the party, shake his hand, say farewell and wish him luck.

It says a lot. Ask me how I know.

Totally agree and this is coming from another vet.

If I was under that kind of pressure I would be a jerk too.

Or a bigger jerk than I am now...

Go and wish him well.

You have nothing to lose by shaking his hand and wishing him the best. He is going to be out of your hair for awhile, right? There's your motivation :p

I say go...he'll appreciate it once he gets here, knowing co-workers support the troops...and if not for him, then for her...

the strippers at my farewell party didn't know me...but they were awfully friendly and shook my....and shook their...

is the bar open, or no host?

If he's a jerk back home he'll be a jerk here. I say go and slap the crap out of him and when he gets here to Iraq I'll finish the job. Let him know I'll be waiting.

James....
