Why does this happen so often in baseball?

the Johnny Damon/Damien Jackson hit in 2003 was the worst I'd ever seen........ until that one.

Very hard to watch. They were both charging full speed, totally focused on making a play. I don't think they could have heard anything at that point. They were both just moving too fast. I hope Cameron has a full recovery.

Could it be the steroids?

Back in the more mellow days of baseball, we had Alfonse-Gaston miscommunication. No harm, no foul.

This was a horrible collision; they are lucky that neither was killed. Really. :(

Of all the bad collisions that have happened over the past few years, I can't think of any which have involved alleged steroid-users. Beltran? Nah. Damon? Nope.

I know. . . That one was horrible to watch. Maybe that's why Johnny D. grew the Jesus do after that. . . More hair to protect the noggin. . . Padding.

CJFusco 08-12-2005 06:00 PM

honestly, I think the reason Johnny grew the hair was to "market" himself, to make himself easily identifiable and therefore unique.

Granted, he has had a couple of great years in Boston, but look how much of a household name Damon has become even among non-Red Sox fans. He is a great player to be sure (still leading the AL in AVG and runs), but not household name great.

Didnt Mickey Mantle's long string of injuries start after Dimagio called him off of a ball like that causing him to fall and wrench a knee?

Tim Raines and Ozzie Guillen was the worst Ive ever seen. Guillen still went on to have an amazing career, but he was never the same after that.
