second car - wrx/sti/older m3/nissan z

Well, I posted this in the tech forum but maybe it was misplaced & belongs here. Here's the story:

Before I bought the 911 I had an sti and as an everyday driving car I found it pretty fun as an everyday fun car. Anyway - I'm thinking of ditching the 04 outback (reliable but so boring to drive), picking up a beach basher (probably a suzuki vitara) and going back to a rex (or something) as a daily driver.
So I'm interested in your opinions:
(a) Stock rex
(b) sti (about a 16k premium here in oz over the wrx & same 2l engine)
(c) wrp 10(aus only model so only aussies can comment on this i guess)
(d) BMW M3 with about 60k on the clock (about same price as sti)
(e) Nissan Z - not quite as quick but pretty damn pretty

If you're considering an sti again, you must've really liked it. I'd go for the M, next wrx, sti and lastly, the Z. I just think them are ugly cars. Opinion based solely on looks. I did own a '96 328 ic once and it was solid reliable.

The M3, 2 or 4 door. I personally like the 2, but my girlfriend has the 4 which is still gorgeous. it's not only quick, it looks 10x better than an STi which looks like a car for teenager. IMO.

Good luck

M3. STi and WRX are for teenagers with rich parents, Zs are not good on the eyes. How about a stock 964, pretty easy to drive with power steering?

Sounds like the M3 is the fav here, which is no super surprise. I know the styling of the sti is a bit teeny but it's a lot of car for the money (so is the m3).
Alf, I can't go the 964 as our p-cars are significantly more expensive over here so that's way out of reach + I like a bit of variety in the garage.

An M3 will mostly probably outlast an STi, particularly in the engine department.

I'd say an M3 would outlast the sti but the M3 is going to have about a 70000km head start as it would be a used car purchase. If it was new/new and money was no object it'd be the M3. As it is I've got a while to think about it. Won't need to make a decision until next year.
