If I went to the Tech Board and said hey I got xyz part whats it worth then comments about it's value has been solicited...

But on the Classified Board ...emmmm...it' neither the time or place to offer opinions especially when someone is negioating a deal....

So U might say the Tech Board is about community of people trying to help one another out and the classified is about business...

Meeting in LV...only if your not afraid of being squished like Herbert was....

I think any public post in Classified saying an item or offer is too high or too low is uncalled for.

Someone should not expect to put their item on Classifieds and expect advice as to pricing. They should expect to receive offers, which they can accept or reject. It's their stuff, and we are all big boys.

That kind of interference, in Classified, is detrimental, IMO. I know when I sold my SC, I didn't put it on the Pelican board. I don't need or want the unsolicited advice as to my car, the price, it's value, etc. etc. from the Pelican peanut gallery. Why go through that kind of grief to sell a car or item? I know of others who agree and have not posted their cars on Pelican for the same reason.

(Although, I must say that the mods have been cracking down on the interference/peanut gallery comments in the past year. Which have made the Classified more workable, but far less entertaining! The Classifieds were becoming the "New OT" before the crackdown).

Well, that's your interpretation. There is no prohibition of opinions on the parts for sale forum. At least, I cannot find one.

The 'no opinion' rule is clearly stated and in effect on Cars For Sale.

I have put up posts on Parts For Sale and had my price criticized without creating any sort of uproar. It didn't bother me a bit.

Again, I look at this more as a pleasant community than a wild west land rush.

I can't believe this thread started, much less made it to page 7. However, I do love the title "I'm calling you out 69-Girlie Boy". Having only read pages 1-4, my only comment is:

IS THE NAME CALLING AND LAME ACCUSATIONS REALLY NECESSARY?

BTW, I invite others to make a thread (in off-topic of couse) to ridicule my profession and my posting demeanor. I'll start:

Why did you leave an upstanding profession where you actually made a contribution to society (a mech. engineer) to feed on the misery of others as an ambulance-chasing, lowlife, Porsche-driving, egotistical piece of garbage (a lawyer)??? And fix up that piece of crap that is embarassment on wheels where you have to have a shoelace attached to the gas pedal in order to stop accelerating!

craigster59 08-17-2005 12:09 PM

I'll give you 5 bucks for the shoelace...and hey guy's NO BIDDING UP THE PARTS PRICE!

bryanthompson 08-17-2005 12:15 PM

pfft, those shoelaces are hardly worth $3. You'll have to go get the ends re-capped in two weeks anyway, and that costs $4 alone.

Westy 08-17-2005 12:20 PM

They're not 'ends' you freagin moron, they're 'nibs'. "Nibs' I say!

nostatic 08-17-2005 12:21 PM

shoelaces? You guys have finally gone too far...

bryanthompson 08-17-2005 12:21 PM

Nibs? Who puts twizzlers (http://www.hersheys.com/products/details/twizzlersnibs.asp) on their shoelaces?

BTW, i've seen those same laces go for $20.

bryanthompson 08-17-2005 12:22 PM

The absurdity never ends!

Westy 08-17-2005 12:27 PM

They are Nibs. I have been calling them Nibs for over 40 years, and that's what I'll continue to call them. Many of you might disagree, and even have a different name for them, and that's all right, but I stand by what I said. If it is important to you that you can call them 'ends', then by all means call them that. However don't expect me to stoop so low as to follow your lead. I'm confortable with who I am, and what I call them, and that is all that really matters. If you knew me better you would know that I'm right, I'm always right, and you wouldn't be arguing this point.

Rant just beginning!!

lendaddy 08-17-2005 12:28 PM

Ferrules you idiots, ferruls.

Damnit! now I'm subscribed to this c0cksucker:(

Westy 08-17-2005 12:30 PM

I thought that was a cat ??????

nostatic 08-17-2005 12:33 PM

I'm seriously considering deleting every post except the ones about the shoelaces. Finally come sanity...

creaturecat 08-17-2005 12:36 PM

Yeah ..all this talk about shoelaces has me fit to be tied!

legion 08-17-2005 12:54 PM

Nibs...ferruls...

Only misinformed yokels in the midwest, south, and southwest would call them that. They are aglets.

http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=aglet

bryanthompson 08-17-2005 12:59 PM

Quote:

Wikipedia says:
In times past, aglets were usually made of metal though some were glass or stone. Many were highly ornamental, and made of precious metals such as silver. Before the invention of buttons, they were used on the ends of ribbons to fasten clothing together. Sometimes they would be formed into small figures. Shakespeare calls this type of figure an "aglet baby" in The Taming of the Shrew. Purely decorative metal ornaments called aigullette are sometimes features of modern military dress uniforms.
So, the laces very well could be worth $20, but craig was trying to lowball as usual.

Just trying to be a nice guy here. Don't want anyone to get ripped off on their shoelaces. Why am I always made to be the bad guy? Quit talking, your opinion doesn't matter. I'm right, you're wrong, and that's all there is to it.
