How do you guys enjoy your salad?
I hate veggies. I especially hate salad. Can't find a way to enjoy it. Doctor says I need to eat more greens but to me it's like eating water. Looking for ideas to make salad taste better. What do you guys put in your bowl of rabbit food?

FETA...
|
Yep, feta. Steak, chicken, tuna. Lots of walnuts, pecans. If you need to eat salad, just mix in some of your other favorite foods with the leafy stuff.
|
fresh tomatoes (in season right now), chopped garlic, balsamic, olive oil, salt, and pepper!
|
if i make it myself, it has to have chicken bacon bits, tomatoes, onion, and peppers...
I love Olive Garden's salad, too. |
You donīt need to eat salad.
Trust me, Iīm a doctor...:D |
Grilled asparagus all the way. If that's not possible, slam down some broccoli trees--dip in hommus first. Quite good.
|
let a cow eat the veggies first. then grill with salt pepper until medium rare,....enjoy.

fresh spring greens for the "salad". Add tomatos if you're so inclined, cucumber, green onions. Boil some sweet corn, drain, and rinse with cold water. dump the corn on the salad.
in a small sealable container crumble feta cheese, and add 3 parts balsamic vinegar to one part extra virgin olive oil. Cover and shake, then pour on the salad. The key is the tart of the balsamic and the sweet of the corn. Trust me on this one... |
maple-balsamic-bacon vinaigrette.
Cook up some bacon crispy. Crumble. combine bacon, maple syrup and balsamic vinager with olive oil. throw in some shallots, salt, pepper to taste. Make a lot of it, let it sit, get's better every day in the fridge. You can drizzle it on cold or heat it up and pour over spinach with cherry tomatos, walnuts or pecans or both, julienne carrots and red onions. Can't beat it. |
salt, pepper, oil and vinegar.
|
What Phillip said or,,,,,,a cobb salad. Roasted chicken, sliced hard boiled egg (I toss the yoke) crumbled bacon, crumbled bleu cheese, green onions, kidneys and garbonzas, oooooh, I'm getting hungry.
|
With enough dressing that it's probably not very good for me anymore. :D
|
roast a little goat cheese with salt and pepper, add to bed of baby spinach. yum
|
tossed
|
What's a salad?
|
Good croutons?
|
Homemade Ranch dressing and Grape Nuts. Seriously.

Bleu cheese, fresh pineapple and chinese noodles...
|
Speaking of blue cheese, brings to mind the classic NYC wedge: quarter a tight head of iceberg, 1/2 inch thick slices of ripe beefsteak tomato, and pour an obscene amount of roguefort dressing on top. Fresh ground pepper. Perfect accompaniment to a rare ribeye.
|
Fresh Roguefort dressing, yum. I only make a couple of times a year, but wow, what a dressing. Especially Okie style
|
Wow, you guys really know salad. I was expecting agreement that it sucks and the only reason you consume it is that you have to for health. I'll have to try these recipes. Thanks everyone but keep 'em coming if you have more.

Go to www.vegetariantimes.com They have a pretty good online database of vegetarian recipes that will enable you to get your veges and not have to eat salad all the time.
I have been a vegetarian for close to 20 years and I HATE salad, and yet, it has not been difficult. You can also try my basic "vegetarian ghoulash", which is served hot, is tasty, and is about 90% vegetables. In a large frying pan, heat a couple tablespoons of olive oil and add in the following order: -1 lb extra firm tofu, cubed (or substitute chicken or beef) Saute until browned over medium-high heat. I only use tofu because it's a good protein source. -Add 1 chopped medium onion and 2 finely chopped cloves of garlic. Saute until the onion is partly cooked. -Add one chopped bell pepper, and 1 cup of mushrooms, or broccoli, or cauliflower, or whatever is about to go bad in the fridge. Saute for a couple of minutes, until the added veges are about half cooked. -Then add 1/2 cup frozen corn, 1/2 cup frozen edemame (soybeans), 1 can of drained and rinsed black beans, and two cans of stewed tomatoes. Stir it all up. -Add chopped hot peppers or hot sauce if you like it spicy. -Stir, reduce heat, cover and let simmer for 30 minutes. -Right before serving, stir in 1 tablespoon of Worchestershire sauce. Serve over basmati rice. Hope you enjoy it. |
Hey that sounds good, yum. I'll modify it a bit, skip the garlic (too much acid) and peppers. I love tofu for some reason.
|
Eat something besides iceberg. I like salad and iceberg lettuce, but it's the least flavored. get one of the mixes that looks like lawn clippings or red leaf or something different.
As you can see from the thread above, there are lots of ways to spruce up plain greens. Plus, it doesn't have to be salad, I'm sure it could be spinach, salad, broccoli (sp), collard or mustard greens, etc... don't forget brussel sprouts. |
I would try to find some green vegetables that I did like. To make a salad taste better and to eat more greens you should use a lettuce with some nutrition like spinach leaves. To make it more tasty add some grilled sliced steak or chicken and a lower calorie dressing.

my mom just turned me onto this shredded broccoli stuff that is for coleslaw that does not add much flavor, but great texture. it is called broccoli stalk slaw. pretty good. i also use romaine hearts instead of iceberg or regular romaine. a little red onion, some mushrooms, carrots, cucumber, and the good seasons ital mix with 2x vinegar and half the oil.
the biggest pain with a salad i have found is dragging everything out each time. i found a tupperware container that is about 2" deep, and about 8"x10", the shallowness of it allows me to make a salad at the beginning of the week and it stays good all week. it stays good because all the stuff is not piled up on top of itself. that way its there and ready and i am more likely to eat it every night. oh yeah, that and a chilled bowl. |
Man, if you love Tofu yer way ahead of the game. I'm married to a vegetarian so I had to learn to tolerate it, and now I can honestly say I like it. Do you fry it up?
|
Yup, fried tofu. Good stuff but frying it probably negates all of its healthful qualities.

Course I also let the pigs, chicken and fish eat the veggies for me to boot. Had some excellent swordfish and BBQ ribs in the last couple of days. Mmmm good! JA |
I think "salad" just means a base of leafy greens, on which you can put anything you want and thus get a great variety of tastes and textures. I mean, you could have a spinach salad laced with thick strips of roast beef and lots of au jus dressing - yum. At home, we tend to put corn, nuts (chopped walnuts, pan-toasted pine nuts, etc), cheese (feta, etc), green onions, and even chopped garlic on our salad.
|
Just add steamed shrimp.
Mmmm!! |
