With enough time, money and motivation you can install about anything under the hood.

What engine is in it now???

I'd probably put the optional V-6 that came in that year in the car. I believe there were 3 possible engines, 2.2, 2.4, and V-6 (can't remember the size).

Ok....I have tried to hold my tounge, but I just can't....

WHY BOTHER?!?!?!

Front wheel drive, weight 2 tons, a bunch of plastic crap hanging off it....

If you want cheap speed, sell the Grand Am, and get an old 5.0 mustang. Crude, but plenty of cheap go.

You have a point. I was thinking the same thing (but I think they are actually much lighter than that). I see no reason to hot rod one, but if that's what you've got and you have to work with what you've got...

IIRC, the engines from then to present are all part of the same family. You could put in the 3.2, 3.4, or 3.6 V6. Just keep in mind that it's best to use the transmission that goes with each engine. (The transmissions weren't very accepting of more HP.)
