Packing and Moving sucks!
As some of you know, I am relocating out of the San Jose area and moving about 100 miles north to Sonoma county someplace. Still have to figure all of that out
![]() This last weekend was the second in a row dedicated to packing and getting ready for the move. The good news is that it was a cool 100 out, especially nice for packing the garage.......I felt like I was in the NBA finals with all of the sweat pouring off of me! Like many other Pelicans, I have a Porsche toy collection of die cast, R/C etc. of about 100 cars in all sizes. Funny thing was when I finally got my Pcar, my wife thought I could stop collecting them! Hah! Now, I have family members, friends and anyone else who finds them buying them for me. Cheap thrills ![]() This is after I had already packed a lot of them ![]() What better way to wrap them than in old technical articles and research for purchasing my first 911? ![]() Safely packed away ![]() ![]() Hope to have a new home for them soon......

Hey, if you are doing the packing yourself, Costco in my area has a moving kit of 30 boxes (small, medium, large), bubble wrap, packing tape, glass dividers, etc. for $50. I bought one just to pack things I have in storage to organize them better. Good value.

My wife and I have lived in the same house for 20 years now. We recently made the final decision to move. OH MY GOD!!!! What a task! Can you guys imagine how much stuff I have aquired in 20 years? The hell with an engine drop party ...I'm having a "pack my crap" party. i'm figuring it will take me about 9 months to liquidate, pack and move. I wish it was over already.

Three moves is equivalent to complete destruction by fire.
If, when moving, I discover an item which was never unpacked from the last move, I discard it. Moving is hell. Pure and simple. I'm Navy, so I get the move routine pretty often. You learn a lot of tricks of the trade, just random stuff to make the thing go more smoothly. Even a well-executed move is a thing of great pain.

When we moved, the movers did not pack my 1/18 model cars correctly and damaged about 70 of them. Make sure the movers (or you) put lots of cusion around the antenna/mirror areas. BTW, nice '89 speedster in the first pic! I have the same exact one behind me now. Luckily most of my Porsche collection survived!
Good luck! ![]() edit: along with my cars, the movers (Atlas Van Lines) damaged other stuff too. Overall it came to $75,000 in damage for their insurance to pay.

Moving 16 Tons
I lived in my last house in CA for 13 years.....It took me a month to pack....and I still didn't get it all done..... Each piece of Art had to be indivdually wrapped in cushioned wrapping paper and boxed ....about 100 pieces in all, dishes each one wrapped indivdually, each piece of Art Glass wrapped indivdually...books in boxes...etc....
Finally after the move...I thought what a shame to unpack it all after so much work went into packing it all up... Anyway events caught up with me...I wound up in a Law Suit 2 weeks after moving here...so for 1 1/2 years I didn't know whether the Builder would buy me out or pay to have the house repaired...So I never unpacked much in this house nor did I improve it to make it a TRUE home...it is still mostly all in boxes...and the furniture has bedsheets over them to help keep the dust off...even after the settlement and repair work is nearly completed.. Go to the Grocery Stores nearby and ask them for Apple Boxes, Banana Boxes, Lettuce Boxes....then buy Clean newsprint at your local moving co as well as various large boxes...Mirror, Dish Pack Boxes and Wardrobe boxes.... ![]()

2200 sqr. ft. Antique collectors and sellers for 20 years= one hell of a lot of stuff. I'm dreading it.

One month or so before moving, I put a sign the door that says "what you keep, you move" and it usually works. Start by putting crap on Ebay and get rid of it.

I wish I could just walk away from about 1/2 of our stuff. I think one couch, one table and the big BBQ are going on the front lawn with FREE attached, maybe I can cut down a little that way.
I do have some Pcar stuff that I may throw up in a panic! BBS style wheels and Cookie cutters, all 15x7s, Carrera steering wheel, front valence for Carrera, two new tires, rear package shelf....... Most likely, I will just move it all to Toby's and just store it in his living room for a few months ![]() -Chris

Having moved 7 times in 10 years (3 cities) & getting to do it again soon, we feel your pain.
Like dj we have a rule that if you don't use it three times a year you don't need it.

dude, dont get rid of any of your parts! you will need something to do, up there. well maybe sell the bbs knockoffs. but save the cookies.
i am in for some bbq and beer. to give chris the proper send off. funny thing is; he is moving exactly the same distance away, just to the other side of me. but now he gets cheap wine!!!! hint hint. technically, packing and unpacking sucks. the moving part is fine. the last time i did it, when i bought my house. i moved everything by myself. no movers, just me, a dolly, and my chevy S10. i took two weeks. my room-mates helped by shifting their legs out of my way, so i didnt trip. and i moved those bastards in. and painted their house. *****, just typing this piseses me off. grrrrr. i am a sucker.
