The gloves are comming off

I am going to start treating boxter owners with the same snobby disposition they give me. 99.9% of the boxters I see on the road won't flash a hi, they won't return a wave. I know that there are little groups in the world and Porsche is no different, Front engine, rear engine, and those snooty mid engine people but for crying out loud they are all Porsche's, Right?
Did I miss the meeting that banished me and my SC to a lower class of Porsche. Am I a substandard person for owning an air cooler? (open invitation for cheep shots) Even the 944 guys say hi on the way by. SmileWavy
this is the last wave I will give to a boxter.

Many of the new owners aren't really enthusiasts like the rest of us. They are just the fortunate ones that can/do afford a pricey new car. They then sell them and then the rest of us can start to afford a Porsche.

They probably have no idea why you are waving or they are not paying attention because they have something on their mind. To them you may just be some nutter in a sports car waving or someone that thinks they are a friend. I often tried to wave, but did so too late. I didn't wave/get waves that often in my '88, but hey, whatever. I don't think it was a personal slight. They just hadn't been told that they were playing the game that I was playing not to mention they didn't know the rules.

It's not about air-cooled this, old Porsche car that. Some Boxster owners know nothing of what's under the bonnet, nor do they care. It's a luxury item, something to say, hey lookeme I'm in a Porsche. What worst are the owners who treat their Boxsters like they would Hyundais. Just another car.

Just blow their doors off with an old Porsche instead. That gets their attention...

yellowline 08-26-2005 02:42 PM

I've had a few Boxster drivers wave to me in my 944, which is admittedly lower on the Porsche food chain than an SC.

I'm a little anxious to see the demographic that buys the Cayman S. I want to see if it's people who want a Porsche that's returned to the roots of the company, or if it'll be 911/Boxster owners looking for something different.

masraum 08-26-2005 03:04 PM

Yes, and just in case. I once had a boxster owner go out of his way to get my attention so he could wave. I was at a light and he was behind me on the opposite side of the road turning to go the other way. He honked his horn a couple of times until I turned to look and then waved as he drove off.

mikester 08-26-2005 03:09 PM

Boxter=NARP...ooops! I mean 914!...just kidding.

cbeers 08-26-2005 03:14 PM

I agree with cntdrv55,

New Porsche owners tend to simply have money, not understanding.

It's not just Boxsters either, new 911 driverss are the same way.
(for the most part)

Even some of the air cooled drivers fail to wave/flash lights at me.

Funny, in the VW air cooled world, EVERYONE waves :)

PS - Mike, what happened to "I heart boobs"?
I loved that line :D

mikester 08-26-2005 03:22 PM

cbeers, I thought that b( o Y o )bies was good but never thought it was as good as "I heart boobs."

Thought I'd change it up a bit...

Rick V 08-26-2005 03:32 PM

Rick V 08-26-2005 03:33 PM

Gawd.

austin552 08-26-2005 04:41 PM

Wave to them all! You dont want one of them writing on the Boxter forumn about you being a snob because 911 people don't think Boxters are real Porsches...
Flip off all BMWs because there not real German sports cars. http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/.../gaapslaap.gif

Rick V 08-26-2005 04:46 PM

Ok Widebody all female boobs, only female boobs, no guy boobs.
That was just plain ol' WRONG

Hey Austin my daily driver is a BMW

HardDrive 08-26-2005 04:50 PM

Are Boxster owners aware that a 911 is a Porsche?

I think some of you guys picked up on the explanation perfectly. Some of the Boxster owners really know nothing about Porsches, nor do they care. They are primarily interested in making others feel inferior.

Gets my wife's attention too...when I blow by a Boxter at a buck-thirty. You know, I try to be good, I really do. But sometimes...just sometimes....I can't help myself! Jesus, I get tired of people who think they are cool because they can sign a lease on a Boxter snubbing me, an old fart in an "old 911" @ PCA functions. The above happened, driving home from a PCA "whinery" Tour. I was bad...I promise I'll never do it again. I haven't been to a PCA event since...;)

billyboy 08-26-2005 05:02 PM

waving/blinking

I pretty much gave up on the boxster/cheyeene set long ago. I do wave at other makes now though to make up for the lack of waving from the boxsters. Not all cars mind you, just ones that are driven by someone who obviously likes fine old cars,ie. austin healys, early vettes, early jags, morgans MG's,sunbeam, early ferrari, triumph, etc. I ain't no snoot, snot or snob!
