Where to find a used AR15?

After the recent prarie dog post, I have got an itch to pick up a used AR15. I own a decent selection of rifles, shotguns, and hand guns, but I would like to pick up a better varmint gun.

In the 80's I was in the Army reserves, so I think it would be fun to have an AR15 of some sorts kinda for old times sake.

I have heard of Bushmaster, Colt and another brand. For my purposes, any brand will probably do, but I can't justify blowing $1000 bucks on a gun right now (like I said, I have quite a few all-ready). Where is a good place on-line to shop for used guns of this type? What is a low price for used one?

Thanks Alf!

Lots of stuff to look at on those sites!

It looks as though I want A1(?) old style sights. I found Olympic brand with these older style sights for $589 (new) being sold by Atlantic Firearms. This is the cheapest I have found and may look into ordering one.

What I really want is a dead ringer for the type our Army reserve unit had in the Mid 80's which had the triangular forestock. It looks like these were probably built in the late sixties or early 70's. From my brief search thus far it loks as though I probably won't find one of these in the $500.00 range.

Tim,
The stocks are interchangable. I would stay away from Olympic Arms, they are generally poor quality. Bushmasters are good and not too expensive. Check out AR15.com for more info before you buy.

Go to a gunshow or look in the paper. There are enough of them around that you can find that need a new home without buying a brand new one.

Properly worked over the -15 is a good weapon.

Joe, the local paper did not have any currently. Unfortunately Alf's suggestion to check out AR15.com resulted in me me blowing the whole afternoon checking out the all the "build your own" AR15 components and kits! Thanks alot Alf, now I have got sucked into another hobby that I will have to get all wrapped up into!

Del-ton, jt-distributing, model 1 sales and m&a parts all offer a great selection of "kits" in the 400-600 dollar range and a RRA or Stag lower receivers go for around 100 bucks. It looks like one has to buy the lower receiver thru a dealer but the rest can be simply ord'd on-line.

My wife is gonna kill me!

I shot a Wilson Combat and an Olympic AR15 a while back. I don't shoot that much, but I definently shot better with the Wilson. This info probably doesn't help since I think the Wilson is about $1600.
