any of the Porsche gang infected with Ducati Motorcycles?

just curious of anyone else rides. I know a few have bikes, really wondering if anyone else has a passion for Ducati just as much as they do for the Porsche.

I've had a few bikes....couple of 748s, a 999 & an S4R.
I just saw an old 250 single at a car show this weekend.
oh man I want one....soooooo BAD

My name is Kyle....and i have problems....

RC51 is a great bike. have some friends that have them, a few tweaks here and there and they really handle well. love the power of the twins.
Cheers,
K.

Not Ducatti, but I am almost done refurbishing a 1980 Moto Morini 500. I have posted several "updates" here with pics in the past--next one will be posted next week. Bike is about 98% done. Love those Italian bikes.

For god sake, stopping talking about Ducati!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have gotten over the urge to buy one, and now you are just making it worse.......ARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! !!!!!!!!!!

Kyle, any chance I can stop by, and ask you tons of irritating questions, put my greasy fingers all over your bikes and make trouble?

I have always loved the SSs...their cheapie bike.

oh man, i'd LOVE a 748R for a trackday bike...
go to the dealer and take a 749 or a 999 for a spin...they are damn nice....even if you don't like the looks of them, they are a MASSIVE improvement over the 748/996.
having said that...i really miss my 748/999 but i'm loving the S4R. in fact, i'm done with work now....i'm riding home in about 5 minutes.
HardDrive...np man. I work downtown, have a place up north but i am often in the city or west seattle.
Hey Eric, I can't wait to see pictures.....any idea how to go about finding an older Ducati single? I've looked all over online, they are not easy to find.
Kyle.

Kyle, do you think an 800SS would be a good starter bike? I have ridden sport bikes before, but never owned one.

I know these rev higher than the 750s did. Given the right mufflers, do they still have a nice sound. Pardon my newbie questions...

I was a Ducati mechanic before I went back to school for my engineering degree. I always enjoyed riding them but I decided to add another boxer to my garage when I got the motorcycle urge. I really liked the 900SS, maybe it's time for another bike.

Buy a BMW and ride it. Love the Duc's but you almost have to morgage the house to get the valves adjusted...

From a thread I started on another site (I have a 750 Kaw Ninja and a 900SS Ducati..but 1993 vintage):

Post subject: In Torque I Trust! Misc rambling from Souk's Lab

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gasoline jumped an astounding $.50/gallon today, so I gased up the Jeep for the last time probably, with gas that is less than $3/gallon. I was driving around today for work, and noticed prices going from $2.99 to $3.51 within hours! So I pulled in to the last station that hadn't changed it's prices on my route...11 gallons or so, and the charge was ~$35 for! of 87 Octane...

So! I said screw that! My Jeep is not a lumbering SUV, but it's still poor on gas mileage. My 911's get better mileage! But they are out of commission

So when I got home I pulled the motorcycles out of the dark dusty corner of the garage. I'm determined to ride two wheels as much as I can until it gets too cold. Even with a twitchy throttle hand making my bike scream in the upper revs as much as I can w/o jail time, I get better gas mileage on them than any of our vehicles.

So! The Ducati was first to get warmed up. I went around the neighborhood at a good but sane pace so I wouldn't get reported, then hit the main route, rolled the throttle to full open...and off I went! WOOOOHOOO!O! OK.. Down shift back into the hood...pop pop pop as I downshift. OK...I need to tune it. So what ? It scares the kids

Now, it's getting dark, but I have to make sure the Ninja will still fire up when I get ready to go to work tomorrow. So I hurry up and roll it out of the garage on its stand..and pull the choke to let it warm up. A couple of cranks and WROOOOM! Let it warm up a little...then off I go, this time heading straight out of the subdivision.

Hmm...something doesn't feel right. Doesn't seem to have much power..might still need to warm up a bit. Sometimes it misses on one cylinder if it's not warmed up. OK. At the stop before I'm out of the subd'n I clutch in and rev it. Hmm all firing. OK. Lets see.....roll from the stop, lean left and crank the throttle WAHHH WAHHHHH WAHHHHHHH! Bam! All the way to 9000+ RPM before I feel the rush.

Geez! I never rode the two bikes back to back like that before, but wow! What a difference between the two....WHAT A DIFFERENCE THE V-TWIN TORQUE MAKES!

The Ducati with its torque felt faster and was more rewarding at low revs and low speeds. Sure I have heard people talk about it before, but never beat up a bike(s) to find out for myself!

The Ninja's four cylinder is smooth and almost too quiet compared to the Duc. And that's with a Muzzy canister that's about blown all the batting out of it. Smooth it may be, but it feels down right mundane at low reves....but not when I crack the throttle at high speeds and high revs! It's scary pass 8000 or 9000 RPM...all the way to 12500! Before I know it, my face (sorry I wasn't thinking I'd go anywhere but around the block!) is fluttering in the triple digit breeze and bugs are smacking my face to commit suicide after getting a closer look at it! What a rush! The rush I needed after a hellacious week so far!

So! Back to the subdivision...and the Ninja still feels slow. OK! That does it! Torque is KING! But I won't give up my high revving Jap 4. I love the scream on the open road of those frenzied pistons...

I hate the lazy twin pistons at high speeds...it's better at 30 MPH through the hood when the sound bounces off the houses and makes your lungs pulse with the energy..

SO! I have found a new love for TORQUE! Now I want to build a torque monster for my 911! How's that for Porsche content?!

I had a Monster 620d but sold it to a friend (too small for me). Have a Triumph Speed Four but it is leaking gas, so I'm waiting to get it fixed (grrrrr). I'd love to have another Duc, but I want something bombproof. I think I might go R110S or something next...

Hi, I'm Jack... And I'm a Monsterholic.

Just bought it a couple of weeks ago. 2000 Monster 900i.e. that had 2 miles on it when I bought it, full warranty.

It's sitting at just over 200 miles on the odo now.

Oh, and gutting the stock cans can make Harley owners somewhat jealous. It doesn't rumble and thump like a Harley, but it does make a very nice sound all it's own. I'd almost say it sounds better than an 883 Sportster. I'm still running break in procedures on mine, so I haven't heard what it sounds like above 6 grand, but I'd bet it sounds sweet from 6k-8k.

And to comment on the torque that the above story talks of..... I had a co-worker ride my bike home for me that first day. The co-worker owns a Kawasaki Vulcan with the 88cu.in.(1450cc's) engine.... He couldn't believe how much torque my little 904c.c. engine was putting out. And none of the Harley guys can believe the rev capabilities. Heck, a Harley redlines at 6k, my break-in rules limit me to 6k for the first 650miles, then 7k up to 1500miles, and a recommended redline of 8k after full break in.

That's on the twin cams, the single cams aren't too terribly expensive.

It also helps to find a mechanic that isn't necessarily the dealership. I've head that shopping around can make maintenance costs up to 66% cheaper.

And just like with anything.... You can always buy the shop manual and tools, and do it yourself

Hell yeah, I'm affected

My Duc:

Todd - stay away from the BMW R1100s bikes. They are no good. The BMW guys on this board are going to roast me, but wow, was I ever glad to get rid of that POS.

Yeah, I remember you saying that, and I have yet to ride one. I rode a Multistrada and ST3 but neither of those really floated my boat. Maybe I need a bigger Monster or a 748. Although the good news is that the dealership has the parts in stock and I'm going to change out the fitting myself tomorrow so I won't have to tow the bike there...so maybe I'll stick with my Triumph for awhile.

Consider yourself roasted....duck! Mwahahahahahahaha! ha! ha!...Roasted...Duck. ...heh..he... whew!...........

....Ok. Ride whatever you like.

I strongly suggest you try the new BMW K1200R. Handles like a 600 but puts out 163hp with a huge dose of torque.

I've ridden it and it is super sweet.

I second the R1100S sucking.

Maybe they're OK for somebody...like someone who doesn't know what a sportbike is supposed to be....
