Anyone know what percentage of our gas comes out of N.O.?
My heart, thoughts and prayers go out to the unfortunate people who are suffering down in N.O.
But is that really where all our gas comes from? As I drive around Calif. I see refinery's everywhere. I'm sure other state's have refinery's also... so are the oil companies just using this disaster to screw us yet again?

The NO area refines about 1 million barrels per day. The US consumes 8.7 million barrels per day, so we have lost about 11% of our gasoline production. I've read refinery utilization is at 98% (effectively 100% capacity), so we need every last drop of go juice.
This ignores the effect of crude oil production. I have no idea if NO sends crude oil to other parts of the country for refining. |
