911 gas costs
6:00 AM regular fuel cost $2.68.9/gal; 2:30PM same gas station is charging $3.45.9/gal.
I couldn't believe my eyes; there's no way this station recieved new stock, we're being taken for a nasty ride. These prices are from the Long Island N.Y. area. The lines from the station across the street with regular@$2.79 were 5 cars long. Goes to show how the station owners are jumping on the rip of band wagon. Totally disgusted!! j.p. |

Jersey has the same situation, I would imagine most the rest of the country too. Glad I filled up Monday, hopefully some released reserve will bring down the price, or at least stop the exponential BS.

seems like gas prices are going through the roof, in Vancouver BC, I just paid $1.20 per litre for 92 octane, that works out to about US$5.75/gallon...makes an expensive fillup with an 80 litre tank

Just paid $2.82 for regular at Costco in the San Diego area. Some places are getting a little over $3.00. Diesel is around $3.10. Sofar nobody seems to be jacking the price up like you describe in Long Island, that's robbery pure & simple.

I paid $3.08/gallon for Chevron 91 octane about an hour ago. That's more or less where it's been all week.

Last week the US had about negative 5% excess capacity IOW we could refine slightly less than we use. The difference was made up with imports.
A couple days ago we lost 10% of our refining capacity from the storm. We don't have enough gas to go around and it will several take weeks to import enough to make up the difference. Some of the refineries in the gulf coast will not be back up and running for months and it is going to cost billions. If you think paying $3 a gallon is bad now, wait until next week when you can't buy gas. I recieved several phone calls this afternoon. Basically I have been told to expect at least hundreds of large pumps to be sent to my shop in california for repair, and several thousand to be sent to the other shops in my company. I was told I may be on my way to the gulf coast to try and help get the refineries running. Not asked, told. They are calling everyone in the country trying to mobilize all the expertize available. We have calls into our European companies asking for help. This is going to be ugly. There are 6 or 8 refineries that are under water. I expect the president to address the country in the next few days and declare a national emergency and call for every available expert to respond with all resources. I woundn't be surprised if they initiated nationwide rationing of some sort. Maybe i am over-reacting but based on the conversations I've had today i don't think so. |

Oh now thats just F'ing peachy news...
I still believe most of this is a sham...How else is a country supposed to fund a war? Thats right, damn near everybody drives a car. For every gallon you buy, I bet $1 goes to the Feds to pay for the war. The rest is just BS, with the storm being another reason to gouge the American public even deeper. Do you like apples??? > > > > How do you like those apples, America?

The gas price jumped from $2.70 to $3.99 while people were waiting in line .....over about 30 minutes....Something sparked a run on gas stations and all stations seem to have huge lines...It appeared to be all over Atlanta ....while the oil companies & opec get rich......I was "lucky" and only had to pay $52 to fill my 911....
Anyone got an electric conversion kit for my carerra? Chris (edit: Of course seems kinda paultry compared to what the folks on the gulf coast are going through.......every one say a prayer & give money to the Red Cross....)

I filled up my Tahoe yesterday at Costco for $2.30 per gallon. I'm at about 1/2 tank after a bunch of driving today so the wife took it to run an errand and fill back up at Costco. I;m driving 125 miles each way towing the 911 Friday. She just called from Costco, gas is $2.49 per gallon, the lines are huge and they have Police directing the llines. WTF. Hopefully people are just over reacting and things will settle down the next few days.
My heart goes out to the souls along the gulf. I can't comprehend what they're going through. We were to be in New Orleans two weeks from tomorrow. John

Just paid $2.99 for 91 Octane Sinclair. Was 2.79 this morning.
No lines yet just gonna limit myself to one good push in second gear a day (to keep the cobwebs flushed out). Might even help the car as well! Of Course this hits when the next 2 weekends are trips to Denver (Rapids vs D.C. United) and next weekend Estes Park for the Bagpipe convention. So that will put a few dollars to work that didn't need to be. Still Beats Europe where I thought I was gettin a deal at $.88 according to the sign. Until I realized thats Pounds/Litre!!! about $5.50 a gallon US. Scotland 2002. Spain was about $4.50 US for diesel. Photo of 81 with Oldest Daughter at the DE in Denver a few weeks ago. 81 SC 90,445 miles today! ![]() |

530 am $2.90 for 87 octane
530 pm $3.65 for the same stuff. several stations here ran out this afternoon, people trying to beat the next increase I recon. The thing that bothers me, my wife and I can afford to pay these prices (*****ing the whole time), but what about the single mom who works 2 jobs? The folks on a fixed income that volanteer thier time in the comunity are going to have some thinking to do. I have a bad feeling about the far reaching effects of all of this and not just the gas prices. The only good I see happening from all of this, the housing market bubble will pop and homes will become affordable to the people who sit just out of reach now. I'm glad I sold my rental last month.(greedy I know but thats business)

Sammyg2 is right on. I've been in the energy business since 1980 and heard all sorts of stories about why prices are high. Fact is supply and demand. Katrina closed a half dozen refineries, shut off most of the gulf production, and until power is restored shut down a couple of major gasoline pipelines to the South and East. Besides that Americans continue to buy big cars, trucks and SUV's especially in Houston. If we bought vehicles that got better gas milage (like my 1987 that gets 25 mpg) we'd lower the price of gas (and all other energy) dramatically. But we won't.

The Governor of North Carolina announced this afternoon that the two pipelines that bring 90% of the gasoline into NC are shut down for an indefinite period. They both come from the gulf coast, none of the refineries are up and running yet, and even if they were, there is no power for the pipeline pumps.
My wife and I filled up both vehicles, and we will see what happens by the weekend. Unleaded premium was 2.99 a gallon this afternoon. It will be interesting to see what it is in 48 hours (the story will hit the NC papers tomorrow morning).

Somehow I feel that this discussion is going to go directly to liberal vs. conservative.
Bash the damn oil companies (and therefore by association, Bush & Co.) and you're a f***ing liberal. JMHO
