if you had 1 hour to leave your home, what would you take with you?
There are a few posts about what to do to protect your home and loved ones in an emergency. In reading those posts I get the feeling that alot of those posters would be the kind to holed up in their homes.
So, for those of you who would leave in an event like the NO situation. if you had 1 hour to leave your home, what would you take with you? about 90% of my posessions are replaceable. my family friends and loved ones are in the other 10% Kyle |
Easy. I'd take one of the bikes loaded with some food and all weather gear...and my photo DVDs.
Everything else can be rebought or rebuilt, but the memories in the photos will just be lost. |
I'd grab my HDD's, pistol with ammo, wedding album, change of clothes, food & water and camping gear.
|
my border collie
ruger mini 14 and as much ammo as possible a bicycle hygiene stuff tent cash knife several backpacks full of food and clothing flashlights batteries matches lighters photo albums cell phone water perhaps my gibson les paul jr if I had room maps portable radio 22 auto pistol + ammo extra gasoline leatherman tool (that sounds awfully funny if you dont know what a leatherman is, huh?) sleeping bag dry dog food and maybe my gf we'd take her camry v6 wagon, more room. |
I'm with Skip on most of these items, but I will also take my Dog's..and if possible meet up at his F.inLaws spread. I would want to be away from crowds..wait & see how it settles.

Family, pets, important papers, a few non-replaceables.
Other than that it's all insured and not worth my life. |
All I need is my chair . . . and well my lamp, but that's it. Well, maybe this thermos, too, but that's it, that's all I need. . .
|
I'd take my gf and laptop, that's it. Everything else is replaceable, and any important data is stored remotely. I'd be sad to leave the animals behind, but... you can't travel very well with birds.
|
A few old family things and leave the rest. Medicine is already packed and ready to go at a moments notice, as are important paperwork and such. Fuel is stockpiled both in the garage and hangar and I could be either on my way out of here or hunkered down in an hour easily.
Just takes a bit of planning... JoeA |
If I had an hour, I'd try and top off the water and fuel (if it wasn't already), and maybe get some fresh food items that can't be gotten at sea. Then I'd drop the lines and sail out of range of small arms fire. I'd still be in range of cell and TV, but out of harms way. In survival mode could last 2 months without resupply.

Not making light of the NO situation, mind you. |
If you've got birds and their wings aren't clipped then set them free.
