TABBYS Latest BIG Find
Well today is a beautiful day.....My latest obession has been English and American Muzzleloading Target Rifles from the 19th century...to that end I have been scowering the Gun Auctions across America.....in paticular the little back roads estate type...
For years I have collected Modern Collectable guns....but the prices have gone outa sight on many of the things I would like to collect...So I have looked around to see what is still reasonably priced... and have come to Muzzleloading Target Guns....a book will soon be published on this type of gun made in NY State....and interest will rise once a book is published... However this is not the purpose of this Thread....but to say TABBY SCORES BIG... I bought a Carlos Gove Half Stock PLAINS Rifle for $500.00. Gove is often mentioned in the same breath as Sam Hawken...Gove was a Western pioneer who moved to Denver City in 1860 and was the largest Gun Dealer, Gun Maker in Denver till he retired in 1882...He was a crack shot as well as doing a stint as Mayor of Denver..His guns being used and made on the frontier are plain looking rifles with few frills...yet the cache of the WILD WEST.... wagon trains, Indian fighting and Buffalo Hunting are all part of the allure of Goves rifles..and as such that drives prices...talking to the Author of the upcoming book on NY Rifles, he estimates this rifles value at a minimum of the mid $XXXX..and maybe much much more... ![]()

Nice! Sometimes you can find a diamond in the rough.
My best score so far is a Winchester M1 Garand I got in a trade. It's a Winchester receiver, bolt and a few other parts. It has a Danish VAR barrel, which is one of the best reputed military barrels made for the M1. It's probably worth over $1000 as it is now. Had some guy try to sell me a Win barrel, gas cylinder and front end for $600. I'm sure it would increase the value more to have 'correct' parts on it.
