2008

Not that interested in starting a flame war, but just curious as to who the Americans on this board would like to see elected in 2008, either as POTUS or Vice-president. If you vote "other", explain your opinion.

Hiliary Clinton
Dick Cheney
Condelezza Rice
John McCain
"Other"

I'm an antipodean trying to get a feel for things over there.

P.S. Thoughts with anyone affected by Katrina

John MCcain or Joe Biden

....I'm a Dem but I don't care for Hilary....maybe she can be VP....

McCain (If Powell ran, I'd vote for him)

If I *had* to pick from the list above, then it would be McCain. If Colin Powell could run (he can't, right?), then I'd seriously consider him.

IMO, the first three on your list shouldn't even consider running.

Christ what a sorry lot to choose from. Hillary would be OK but Ok won't cut it. Besides that a woman president would get no respect in the middle east. If I HAD a choice, it would be Powell. He's been lied to and hung out to dry. I don't think he would do the same to others. I really distrust them all, but what are ya gonna do. Hell even the Romans hated their politicians.

Jeb Bush is already programed into the Diebold software.

He is slated to win, even if he's not on the ballot.

Rice is extremely intelligent and understands how to get things done, but she has a lot of [racist] negative press to overcome.

I think Hillary's time has passed. She might not even get re-elected to the senate! (I still don't understand how she successfully carpet-bagged.)

Cheney will not run. He has said so every time he has been asked. He doesn't want the big office...he wants to retire and have a few beers and chicken wings before his heart gives out.

John McCain. I still can't understand why the left loves him so much. He's a real conservative at heart--he's just broken with party lines on some key (but not core) issues.

I think we'll probably see Frist in the primaries. He impresses me as a nice guy who has become distanced from real people--much like GHWB. That won't play well in the media.

I know Blagojevich's original plan was to sit quietly in Springfield (well--Chicago) for four years and then run for president, but he's proven completely inneffective even though his party has firm control of this state.

Rice: smart, but misled everyone with regards to WMD.

Frist: The whole pandering to the religious right on the Schiavo ordeal was pathetic. No WAY

McCain: I like him, wish he were president now. He seems willing to break from the party when it's a matter of principal. Doesn't seem to pander to anyone. Too young to remember, but apparently he effed up in the SnL crisis in the 80's.

Leiberman?? To be honest, I really don't know much about him but his face always seems to pop up when common sense issues are dealt with.

Perhaps you are fooled by caricatures of left-thinkers, like we hear from Fint et. al. In statistics it is common to throw out the "outliers" before doing calculations. In reality, most of us want pretty much the same things, and our differences are about the details of achieving those things. John McCain strikes me as an independent and circumspect thinker. Much like liberals are. I don't need a President who thinks and acts just like me. I need one who makes good, insightful judgements after thorough consideration. I think McCain would be a HUGE improvement over you-know-who. And I probably think Powell would be even better. But I also think our next President will be a (D). Even if the Dem party continues to seem clueless.

But yeah, I'd be fine with Powell as Pres. The more important goal to me is to return Congress to (D) power. So that things can get done.

And I'd like to see a constitutional amendment requiring Congress to restrict the content of a bill to its title. No more adding pork into any ol' bill that comes by.

Regardless of what happens in '08, the White House will be occupied by a more competent leader. Forest Gump could outperform the current guy.

If Hilary gets close there very well may be a small army of militants arming to take care of the biatch before she took the oath.

She sure scares me as well. I do not want to see her in office, period. People around the Clintons have a problem with "becoming dead" more often than normal and if she was the VP the Prez just might get sick by accident if you know what I mean.

McCain has been running for the office for the last year. He has already gotten his staff in place and its quietly working now. Personally he is too liberal in most of his policies even though he says he is a Repub.

Would love to see Powell run and believe that he could win. Question is will he take the leap?

Don't care anymore, as nothing will REALLY change, whomever goes there, they will forget what he promised,do the opposite of what people want, be hamstrung by the opposition, and it will be business or lack of as usual.Same sh@@,different name/maybe party..10 years from now we will be talking about border control(turnstyle) the levee for NO,
yes I vote, but it does no good...just look at the daily news/comedy
I need to just take care of my Family,P, the rest at the end of the day is BS as usual.

The next Prez. She'll have Kerry offed, then Hill and Terrrrezzzza will get together as the first lezbo's. Then they'll adopt and raise a child.

Why does little Johney have 2 mommies?

Don Rumsfeld/Condie Rice

Don Rumsfeld is quite the orator and his brilliance would be complemented by Condi...Both impeccable in character and both highly qualified.
