i mean do you love your local team? i almost got run over by some jacked up diesel excursion with RAIDER NATION flags and stickers all over it. made me think, what if that fool got transferred to dallas?

Vol fans in TN are a blight on this land. I believe that the disease is viral and highly contagious.

my boss is a hard core raiders/A's fan. always asking the 49ers/giants fans "don't you know what side of the bay your were born on?". he recetnly went to a 49ers game with his new wife with free tickets. said it was nice to enjoy a game and not have to watch your back.

Nope. I grew up in Florida and have lived in Louisiana since '95. Ive been a Raiders fan since birth. I hate every other team in the league. Always have. Always will.
Im an LSU fan for life after going to school there. You never forget a Saturday night in Death Valley. Ive been to two Super Bowls (Raiders/Redskins '83 and Raiders/Bucs in '03) and neither were better than the Auburn game in '95 or the Florida game in '97 in Baton Rouge. I have lived in Houston all my life, but I am hard pressed to call myself a Texans fan. I would make so many changes to the team, that it wouldn't be the same team, so I can't say I'm a fan.
I am a UT grad, and I still feel a fierce loyalty to my alma mater. No matter how bad they may do, I love my longhorns. Hook 'em!!!

I grew up in East Tennessee, so I didn't have a choice - I had to be a Vol fan even though I went to Tenn Tech. Living in Alabama for the last 18 years has made it tough, but luckily there are probably as many Tennessee fans around here as Auburn fans (lots of fans red algae fans, though). Mike

The Raider thuggery is largely overplayed, as are the talents of the Giants and 49ers.

I live about 100 miles east of Pittsburgh and have been a Steelers / Pirates / Penguins fan all my life. Oh, and Penn State too, 45 miles east of me.

Unfortunately true.
Too bad the Seahawks are just average, the Mariners stink and the Supersonics...well, I haven't watched them in at least a decade. We won't even mention our local universities football program.

Yes and No. I am a diehard Steelers fan, based mainly on attending games/general atmoshpere while growing up-- but they are also a quality football team--and the franchise philosophy really is appealling. Low on flash, very loyal players, and down-to-earth management(Hell--Art Rooney II called me on the telephone last year after I wrote a brief letter complaining about the parking situation at the stadium!). The Steelers are fortunate though, in that there are many fans across the country. The Texans game sounded almost like a Steelers home game.
But I am also a huge Chiefs fan. Never lived in Kansas City, I just like Joe Montana and started following the Chiefs when he signed with them. I just like their program. Low-key, rabid fan base, blue-collarish. Way more appealling than the flashy style of organizations like Dallas, Redskins, 49ers, etc.

As a third generation San Franciscan, I was raised to love the Giants and Niners, and hate the A's and Raiders. Thank you, Dad.
And Moses, the Giants and Niners talents are not overplayed. How can they be when they suck so much this year? I miss Eddie D. and his big wallet.

My parents are both from the Bay Area...my mom from the Sunset District in SF and my father from Castro Valley.
Even though I spent the bulk of my youth in SoCal, I have always been a 49'ers fan...can't seem to break the memory of my first 49'ers game at Seal Stadium and subsequent afternoons at Candlestick with my extended family of grandparents and aunts and uncles. Even though they sucked during the '60's and '70's, my loyalty to the 49'ers started because it was a family thing. Still is, even though they EALLY suck again!

Geaux you Tigers. Living in Chattanooga I like the Vols but as I've been telling folks here, Saturday nite in BR, first game since Katrina, the Fightin' Tigers will knock the orange off the Volunteers. As far as Vol fans, I've been to one (& only) TN game. I spent $25 to park 6 blocks away, spent $50 in Calhouns waiting (I went early to get a good parking space). Spent $80 on 2 end zone tickets only to find out that for $40 you get 17" of painfully ridged aluminum bleacher. Just before the invocation my seat neighbors arrive. The dest description I can give is that they looked like they had just finished DUI detail on side the highway in the backwoods of Newport. You could smell them from just about as far away as you could see them.
During the prayer the guy next to me is shuddering like Jimmy Swaggert appologizing for getting caught with the whore. He then sits down, pulls up the pants leg to his "overhauls" and proceeds to untape a flask of some fine product of the distiller's arts and takes a big slug. After being so fervent during the prayer he now proceeds to yell at the top of his lungs "f**k you USM" to the USM fans across the corner of the end zone from us. Since my shoulders do not fit the 17" size limitations and neither did Jethro's we end up squeezed against each other for the next 3 hours. I used to think Bill Gates was the marketing genius of the human race. But whoever has figured out how to get 110,000 to pay $40 bucks or more for that experience may have Bill covered.

Ahhh yes...it's good to see that UT games haven't changed any over the years, Mule. :>) I went to my first one in the late '70s probably and it was the same, essentially.
I also agree that Tennessee is going to take a beating in BR this weekend... Mike

may god have mercy on the vol's
