Marriott hotel open tonight in Downtown New Orleans!
The Marriott Courtyard is open for business tonight in New Orleans. They are making their own power and in some cases providing rooms for the workers but dammit they are OPEN for business!
Whoever said that it will take years to recover may be correct about all the individual houses but this city will survive and prosper! Someone forgot about the American spirit. We will get over this and move ahead. JoeA

A great step in the right direction. What you will see is a trend. Those who decide to get it done themselves with little or no help from the Government will do 100% better than those who are waiting for politicians to fix it for them.
I realized this 2 days after I was hit by the Francis in 2004 and lost my office. I knew if I waited for FEMA or my insurance company I would be out of business. Kudos to the management of the Marriott for taking th bull by the horns and moving ahead. I am most certain they did this on their own.

Marriott has sent out people to find and help all of their employees who were in the area. Television adverts to call in and that the company will help you.
Only other company on this scale to do this type of help that I know of is Wal-Mart. They have given their employees a job at any store near where they re-located and when the stores in their home are open they will have a job upon return. We will make it and it will be better in the end. JoeA

The corp I'm with has done the same. Other than donating a large sum of money and donating trucks they are offering lodging, rental cars and jobs to help them out. I believe we still have a few missing and are aggressivley looking.

My company did the same thing. We had a total of around 300 employees in the affected areas. We got info out immediately to all the rescue efforts that if they came across our employees (we provided a list of course), tell them to contact us because we have money for them. Several of us were tied up daily with conference calls to update our corporate offices with any news related to our employees. It made me feel good that my company went to such lengths for its employees.

When a company reacts to a situation like this, you WANT to work for them because you know that they take care of their people. Wish more companies realized this.

A lot of companies are being less accomodating. The friends of mine were offered relocation to South Dakota or termination.
