My kid's principal is an idiot....

So we get a note on bright orange paper from the Grade School principal yesterday....

I will summarize, as of today parents are not to bring any sort of snack, cake, cupcakes, etc to celebrate a child's birthday to share with the class....now here's where it get's absurd...the reasons

"The nurse and I have had many conversations lately about the problems of childhood obesity and poor eating habits of kids today. We are committed to your children's health, etc, etc." "so therefore as of today no more snacks for their birthdays..."

Are you ****** kidding me? Say there is a class of 20 kids, perhaps 15 of them have their b-days during the school year, so that maybe leads to 12 of them bringing some sort of cupcake, brownie, etc to share with the class. 12 of these minute snack items in a year!!! This is surely going to solve the childhood obesity problem in the US, she is going to get some sort of State health award for her brilliance.

These are 1st - 4th graders for God's sake! What is more exciting to a 6 year old then their birthday and X-Mas (or other winter holiday or your choice)??!?!?

Oh and she closed with the new food related mantra these days that "by the way, it will also eliminate the issues of food allergies as well..." is it my imagination or are there more random allergies these days then when I was in first grade 29 years ago....

This is my first kid making her way through the school system so I'm sure I'm in for a long road ahead of brain farts from teachers, administrators and others...
Adam

I don't know how I will handle this kind of BS from teachers when I have kids...

It's my personal theory that letting your kids stay inside all day and play video games has led to an increase in allergies. (They don't get exposed to much stuff.)

That is so ridiculous. I would instead have your daughter take pictures of delicious cupcakes, cookies, and candy and hand those out to her classmates on her birthday.

Fight absurdity with absurdity!

My wifes a teacher, She comes home with stories of all her school boards twisted new rules and requirements, it infuriates me. especially that my tax money pays these morons salaries.
She had a meeting yesterday, a new rule in the school district is' under no circumstances are u allowed to touch a student, not even a pat on the shoulder for doing a good job. WTF???
Shes teaches kindergaten, if a kid comes to her crying and tries to hold her arm or anything like that , shes supposed to put her hands up and back away from the kid. You cant comfort the kid in anyway. Because it might be "misconstrued as abuse or sexual contact".
I'm so glad my kids are finished with school, it sucks.

I hate to say it Adam, but you have a long frustrating road ahead of you as far as schooling goes.

WTF is she supposed to do if two kids start hitting each other and won't stop when given verbal commands, stand back and take bets?

(No she couldn't do that either, because it might hurt one kid's self esteem.)

Yes, but they make a few bucks for themselves while making everything more expensive and red-tape laden. Of course, they're just fighting for the rights of the little guy.

Wonderful! I can't wait until my little guy goes to school in a few years.
School is so f'ed up now it's no wonder kids go off the deep end at the slightest sign of trouble.
So now a teacher is not supposed to touch a child, under any circumstances? Don't we teach them that a teacher is someone to trust? They won't understand why the teacher backs away in horror when they need someone to console them! Freakin' lawyers!!!!!!!

EDIT: A good a$$ kicking in school builds character.

Me too.

6' 1" and 240 lbs. I'd like to drop 20-30 lbs, but I'm not fat. (Also bench press 305 lbs. and squat 405 lbs. Did a triathlon two weeks ago...)

Go look a the teacher's..most likely they are obese themselves, it is true that america has a serious fatty problem....this most often is the norm..fat kids =fat parents.Remind's me of HS..coach+staff was fat, telling everyone to run some laps..hell he broke a sweat putting on socks.I'm sure the candy vending machines are still there along with Big Red.

Fight it with Petitions, if a teacher or admin is fat I would tell the school they are a bad influence on my kid.

Does the cafeteria only serve healthy food? Lots of vegetables, high protein entrees, milk for a beverage?

Or does it serve sweetened drinks, pizza, tater tots, etc? (And the tater tots are considered a vegetable!)

i am interested in what they feed the kids at your school. any mac and cheese as a main course? is the milk non-fat? any hawiian punch?

i say it all the time, "i wish i could quit using the word IDIOT, but i cant, it is just too useful"

Parental responsibility?? Whats that? Most just drop the kids off so the school can babysit them for the day. They couldnt give a crap about the kids education. When the kid F*&ks up, its the teachers fault. It the " My kids can do know wrong" additude.
Whats really sad is ,that the school boards never back up the teachers.
