Women are just animals - Proof
New FDA Appointee
FDA Appoints Official from Office of Veterinary Medicine to Office of Women's Health September 16, 2005 CONTACT: Erin Kiernon (202) 973-4975 Washington, DC — FDA Commissioner Lester Crawford has appointed a man who has spent the majority of his career in the office of veterinary medicine to the position of acting director of the Office of Women's Health at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Dr. Norris Alderson will replace Dr. Susan Wood, a key women's health expert, who resigned on August 31 in protest of the FDA's handling of the application to make Plan B emergency contraception (EC) available over the counter. Planned Parenthood Federation of America Interim President Karen Pearl issued these comments on the appointment: "The appointment of Dr. Norris Alderson, a man who has spent the majority of his career in the office of veterinary medicine, to the position of acting director of the FDA's Office of Women's Health speaks volumes about the priority the Bush administration places on women's health and safety. The appointment of Dr. Alderson to replace Dr. Susan Wood further undermines the shaky credibility of an agency that has allowed politics to trump sound science, medical evidence, and women's health. "Following the needless delays in granting women over-the-counter access to emergency contraception, this appointment is another two steps backward on the FDA's long road toward restoring its integrity with women and their health care providers like Planned Parenthood." Let's hope there is no equal to hurricane Katrina in women's health issues coming up soon. Oh, right there is that whole reproductive rights/health/safety thing going to the Supreme Court soon.

Looks like they did a last-minute switcheroo, probably based on the negative press the horses' ass @ FEMA garnered
From Salon.com - http://archive.salon.com/politics/war_room/2005/09/16/animals/ Update: Shortly after we posted this item, which was based on a press release from Planned Parenthood, a reader alerted us to a press release that was posted today on the FDA's Web site. In that release, the FDA said that Theresa A. Toigo has been appointed as the acting director of the Office of Women's Health. The FDA press release also says, rather cryptically, "This is a revision of this statement posted earlier on September 16." That earlier statement is no longer available on the FDA's site, but, as another reader pointed out, a cached version is still available through Google. Under the heading, "Dr. Norris Alderson -- Acting Director of FDA's Office of Women's Health," Alderson's bio says, "The majority of his FDA career has been in the Center for Veterinary Medicine, holding a number of management positions, culminating in the position of Director, Office of Research." Did the FDA scramble to change acting directors once it realized that Alderson's appointment might invite unhappy comparisons to Michael Brown's tenure at FEMA? Inquiring minds want to know, and are still waiting for calls back to find out.

There we go, trying to legislate morality again.
I am a Christian and a Catholic. I believe abortion is bad, and I believe that in the best of all worlds, there would also be monogamy and sexual abstinence before marriage. Now, don't ask me if I as a single man practice abstinence, but I do believe those are "good" values. And moreover, I think legislation does nothing whatsoever to promote morality. Avoiding something because it is unavailable, or because it would be illegal to practice, is not morality. I believe that following God's commandments is something that is done by an individual with both moral and immoral options to choose from. Not something that is done by an individual for legal reasons. If God had meant for us to not have immoral options to choose from, then he would have set the world up differently. And again, in is completely beyond my understanding how some of the people who post here can conclude that this "administration" supports freedom.
