The recent rendition of Manchurian Candidate is another good example...It was red China who infiltrated our government in the original and then it became a big evil corporate giant in the redo.

Len, I am saying it is a conspiracy...The media knows (to think otherwise is naive) their power in manipulating public perception, and they are quite willing to do it to suit their agenda...Their agenda actually trumps ratings as network news illustrates.

eg...Today Bush goes down to the liberal hell-hole of New Orleans and CNN runs a footer reading "damage control".

I mean a guy behind a curtain somewhere Mul. Ofcourse some of the guys at the top know what's happening and so do some of the personalities/reporters. I don't think that rises to conspiracy. I also think a good deal of them are just being their ignorant socialist selves and the rest falls into place. In the end who cares why or how if the result is the same?

Have you ever seen "Citizen Kane"?....In it the William Randolph Hearst character says something to the effect "the public will believe what I tell them to believe" (paraphrase)...At very least the screenwriter and Orson Welles saw this power-lust in journalism way back then.

So how do you guys explain how the (predominantly) conservative ownership of the media doesn't control its outrageously  liberal coverage?

Ownership? Aren't they corporations?

Find me a liberal dominated board of directors then.

Cue the voice of Darth Vader: "This is CNN."

More importantly, find me a conservative dominated editorial board or production staff of a major newspaper or network.

CamB 09-20-2005 03:06 PM

Yeah, CNN might fit the bill (I have no idea).

So Mul, if the editorial boards are liberal dominated (possibly are), and if they demonstrate a bias, why aren't they reigned in by the conservative boards?

Mulhollanddose 09-20-2005 03:26 PM

I am not buying that the media boards are conservative...They would, obviously, be smart and greedy enough to realize that their news organizations are getting whooped by FoxNews.

CamB 09-20-2005 03:35 PM

OK, in New Zealand, 100% of the public company Board's I have worked with have a majority of people who would vote conservative.

Maybe it is different over there, but I'd be surprised.
