Listening to the local news... the "Center for People in Need" along with the fire dept. are going around to all of the mobile homes in Lincoln (door-to-door) giving out smoke detectors. According to them, mobile homes are twice as likely to have fires and because the fires spread quicker, they are more likely to be injured in a fire.

I know that if I lived in a mobile home, I'd be damn offended if some group of do-gooders assumed that because I live in a mobile home I either don't have the sense to buy a smoke detector, or that I am too poor to afford one. I don't care who you are, that's a horrible assumption to make. It reeks of elitism.

Right. Charity is much more palatable when you can extract it from an unwilling donor through taxes, instead of having to thank an elitest do-gooder who gave you something out of kindness and generosity.

May not be PC, and I certainly know a few people who are doing ok and live in some pretty nice mobile homes. But probably, percentage-wise, they're right.
Now, since they're going to do something anyway, 'cause they think they're doing their part to protect the less-advantaged, would yu rather have them hand out money for smoke detectors (beer)?

Speaking for my neighbors and myself..we'd be glad to receive those smoke detectors.....after all there is a pawn shop right across the street where we can pawn them.. Then we can go over to the Mini-mart and get ourselves some smokes and brew...and laugh at those fools for trying to be such "Good Citizens."

The Clinic is FREE..so that ain't NO DEAL, but I could trade those Stamps in for a BJ from the neighbor with the 2 kids....yeah OK it's a deal...
