It Seems Like
When I was a mere lad, we had drills to duck and cover under our school desks in case of Nuclear attack. The Bay of Pigs, The Berlin Wall, The Cuban Missle crisis all were things that hung over our heads in those days....that reality of Nuclear anihilation was in the back of minds all the time...to the point where the threat became so ever present after a couple of decades it became normal.
Then in 1990 the Wall came down and everybody breathed a sigh of relief....at least we won't be blown up in our sleep now....and for 10 years we felt relief...we elected the ultimate Party Guy as President or "Falseafier" as Hitchens calls him...and we forgot our cares and responsibilities...and partied like it was the "End of History" It seems that with the dawn of a new century it became obvious that the party was winding down and the hangover was setting in...All the issues that were swept under the rug were now begining to rear their ugly heads....and Osma was just the guy to sober us up quick...he threw fire in our face...NOt only is Amercia faced with external enemies we discovered we are a house divided as to which course the ship of state should be steered. And it seems that one failure or calamity after another is now befalling the system.... exposing just how threadbare the cupboard really is in the Richest most powerfull nation in the world., and blame is being heaped upon the ones with their hands on the wheel...rightly so or not...it doesn't matter. BUt I guess what one has to realize is that a whole new paradigm or dynamic has arisen with it's inherent subset of problems that must be dealt with. In other words its the same old world with a new set of problems..
