addiction - trying to quit smoking

I have been trying to quit smoking this week. I have done a good job for the most part.

while my body feels better, I feel like I can breath better I feel cleaner. My fingers dont smell like tobacco anymore.

My mind is something else. I have trouble concentrateing because I am craveing a cig so bad. I shake from time to time. I am constantly pissed off at everything.

I keep telling myself that I do not need nicotene. I can live without it.

2 packs a day to none a day, it will be a week on monday.

edit: sorry, that wasn't supportive at all. Good luck with quitting. I hear it's one of the most difficult things in the world, but everyone I know that's accomplished it is glad they did.

Slak, you may need some support to quit successfully, like Nicorette or something along those lines. Quitting a 2-pack a day habit cold turkey will be, in my opinion, dam near impossible. I have done a lot of research on the topic, and nicotine is significantly more habit-forming than crack!

First part is realizing that its a drug and it addicts people. Keep off of the damm fags and get yourself clean.

Its your life and do you want to end up in a nursing home at 65 or live a nice life until the ticker gets tired? Cigarettes kill you, its a proven fact.

10 months here, three packs a day to nada cold turkey no quitting aids. It'a an entirely mental thing. Search Lendaddy and smoking and you'll see our mother thread with lots of good advice.

I quit in feb. Only 1 pack a day but it was still hard. Just take it one hour at a time soon the hours will become days and so on and so forth. Good luck, You can do it

All I would say is 'keep quiting'.

It took me a long time to totally let it go. If you have one, or slip up, just jump back on the horse and keep on going. It took me about 6 months.

If you slip up, have a last cigarette before you sleep, then fill the pack with water and throw it out. Its easier to wake up in the morning and just avoid the first smoke.

Hang tough. Its worth doing.

Could be done if you set your mind to it. My step father decided to quit one day when he was 60, he smoked 2 packs a day since he was 13. Ate a gallon of Dryers a day for a month though

Smoked for 20+ years and tried several times to quit cold turkey. I went on the patch and used candy to break the oral part of the habit. It worked so well I recommended it to my best friend. That was 10 years ago and we both are still smoke free. You have to REALLY want to quit first.

When I was ten I took a couple of my dad's smokes and went to an empty lot across the street and lit up. I coughed a bunch and said F this. That was the beginning and end of my smoking career.

I tried that about 100 times...Didn't work for me.

Cold turkey is the way to go, the only way in my estimation.

I saw a guy at work dieing of lung cancer, really sad. Even after the doctor told him to quit, he couldn't. I took the prolonged way out & switched to Copenhagen, I'll quit in a year or less.

Two and half weeks w/out and feeling better every day. Must say that I still want one in teh morning. I keep telling myself that with cigs at $10.00 AUS a pack giving up the 10 packs a week saves a $100.00 a week which I can spend on teh P Car.

Stooped when, at med school, saw a guy post mortem - rib cage opened and both lunges 100% gorged with small cellular lung cancer - the worst form at the latest stage - and almost always smoke induced. The sight of those lungs made me sick (besides the smell). I went out the door for fresh air. Chucked the pack in a bin and stooped right there.

Of course I was already doing our Swedish variety of "wet snuff" and so I am still addicted - at least to nicotine. But that will not make me end up on the table like that other guy, at least..

Think about the money you can save and put into your Porsche!!!!
I quit cold turkey about 3 years ago when my wife and I decided we were ready to start a family. She quit about six months before me. We used the extra money to take some day trips.
Hang in there. You won't regret it.
