Northridge Baseball Question?
I am a certifiable baseball nut. Not so much Major League, although I am a fan but almost any other level I thoroughly enjoy. My son and i took a road trip this year to Cooperstown. We had a blast.
I have quite a collection of memorabilia. Mostly obscure stuff. Not autographs although I do have some. Mostly old gloves, catchers equipment, books, photos, etc. My sister gave me a framed photo of a baseball team for my recent birthday. The jerseys have Northridge across the front. At the bottom of the photo it says, "Northridge Merchants Champions 1935". I am assuming this is Northridge, California but that may be wrong. The players are obviously men. In the south there used to be "Mill Teams" Each mill would create a team much like recreational softball is now. This team may be something along these lines. With the number of left coasters on the board and the diversity of this group I was hoping someone could shed a little light on this photo. Thanks, Kevin

I live in Northridge, CA and while I'm not a history expert on this area, I think 1935 is too early for a reference to Northridge. In 1935 Northridge would have been nothing but farms and ranches and may not have even adopted the Northridge name yet. Originally, this area was known as Zelzah and then North Los Angeles before becoming Northridge.
All fascinating, I know, but I think 1935 is too early for Northridge, CA to be the location of the baseball team you're refering to. |

Thanks Leader, I was assuming. I would bet many states have a community known as Northridge. I will keep looking.
